Ford rules...... ford trucks especially the f-250s are more beastly and manly than the other three. Now i know that all the trucks have there high points and there low points, but ford just has that tough look. Now i do like what dodge did with the new design and all but it looks to much like an on road only no off roading truck, like too tamed. the other two chevy and gmc are just crap especially gmc
BoardinBro00, I drive an '03 Dodge and love it, but I definitely would not say the other two brands are crap. Quite to the contrary actually. Superdutys are a tough looking truck, no doubt about it. Myself, I prefer the look of the Dodge. You're correct in saying they each have their good and bad points, but that also includes the GM's. My friends and I are avid mountain sledders making many trips on winter highways for 2-300km each way to get to the mountains. In our group, each brand of diesel truck is represented. One '02 F350 4X4 Lariat C/C 7.3, two GM 4X4 Silverados with Duramaxes, one '01 Dodge 2500 Q/C 4X4 Laramie with H.O. CTD/ 6 spd, and my '03 Dodge 3500 Q/C 4X4 Laramie with H.O. CTD/ 48RE. Everyone of them are beautiful trucks. There's not one I wouldn't be happy to own. None of us off-road with our trucks, so ground clearance isn't usually an issue. I would say for us, handling and ride quality are more important. As well as reasonable fuel economy while towing and sufficient power to comfortably tow a 4-place enclosed trailer. For ride and handling, I think the GM's win hands down. The Dodges and the Ford are pretty close. So what will best suit you definitely depends on what the intended use will be. Oh, and we usually check the mileage every trip. While pulling the aforementioned sled trailer, all of the trucks in our group (excluding mine which I just got) will usually be within 1-2 miles per gallon of each other.
I guess I'll jump in here now..
Being A diehard Ford Owner, and having it beat in my head
as a child
from my father, I finally made a jump to Dodge and now drive
a 97 ext cab 4x4. ANd basically the only reason I went to Dodge
is Ford was trying to make there truck like a Car, and they had no room for a guy my size (6' 6") te dodge has leg room like
my 78 Supercab!
I will always bleed ford blue though!
And will never drive a Ch*vy!
My whole view on Dodge is this...
Ugly looking trucks..Look like someone poured hot plastic in a frame and made it..Looks like one of those toy trucks kid's play with...I am sorry but Dodge trucks are ugly..Preformance wise...well It's fair IMHO...
i work for an RV dealership were i take care of all the rentals. we have ford E-450's and have had chevy 3500's as the chassis for our motorhomes. we have never had a problem with the fords. the only problems we have had have been on chevys. we had three main bearings go on a chevy bigblock with only about 25,000 on it. we sold that motor home and bought another one like it to replace it as a rental. that brand new unit was delayed in delievery because why?? the oil pump had to be replaced. the chevys do not have the running gear to stand up to motor home abuse(15000 pounds or so) they put under rated tires on there that on the front do nothin but cup. i cant speak for the brand new cutaway chassis as we just got one in tho. we have an 85 f-350 460/c6 that the company bought brand new. we hit snow banks with it doing 30 mph since brand new. the transfer case pops out of gear but the truck stays running, original tranny, original motor with who knows how many miles on it. we use it over the 12v cummins(tranny went already) we have to pull around the biggest trailers. the only thing we've had to replace was the carburater because we dont run it that much other then around the lot. god knows when the last time was it had an oil change done to it. and it will still throw ya back in the seat when ya step on the gas. we also have a 96 250 heavy duty with the 460 and a 4 speed over drive. it has 63000 on it and its in great shape.
well you take all that and put FORD in there and you have MHO.
First time I saw a 99 ford I thoght it had been in an accident and was on the lot for repair work
I have to agree with that statement, wouldn't buy one either. But I have say Toyota built one tough little pickup in the late 70s early 80s. Notice they are very commoly used in tough truck competitions. Their little engines would run darn near forever, no matter how hard you are on them especially the 22R. But I am 6' 2", I can't fit in those little things!
It seems that the feeling of "They just don't make trucks how they used to" and "the new trucks are junk compared to the old kind" keeps surfacing. And though newer doesn't necessarily mean better (in all kind of respects, trucks, guns, houses, ect.) keep in mind newer trucks havent had TIME to prove themselves. Someone may say "oh my ol' '88 has 300k on it and still runs like the day it same off the conveyor belt" but probably only 1 out of 10 of those type trucks had a responsible and careful enough owner to keep it running like that. The same may be true of 2000 and newer trucks. in 2012 we'll be sitting on the front porch saying "You know sonny, the pickups they made 12 years ago were the best ever. These new 2012 models are plastic pieces of junk!"
Just my opinion. Although if we were talking about muscle cars, I would say the oldschool ones were definately cooler
I have always favored a Ford and like most here would rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy, but I think they all have their good and bad points. Chevy’s have always driven too much like a car to suit me and they seem to fall apart a lot quicker than a Ford. When Ford changed body styles in the mid-nineties, I too was turned off by the lack of space inside the cab. I turned to Dodge and though I felt guilty for a long time, I learned to appreciate my Dodge extended cab 2500 4X4 5.9 Cummins diesel.
It, so far, has been the best truck I have owned, 236K miles and not one single problem and gets 20+ MPG. How can you argue with that? It runs better now than it did when it had 20K on it and I drive it over a 100 miles each day in my commute to work.
However I still consider myself Ford at heart, I purchased my wife a new Super crew 4X4 in 2001 for the same reason we originally went with the Dodge in 96, more room (and much better interest rates certainly didn’t hurt).
I am in the process of restoring (modifying) my pride and joy, a 55 Ford F100.
Good maintenance, I believe, will yield good service in almost any piece of equipment.
Personally, The best ford Pick up was the mid 70's one, up untill 79. Though thay defianately had rusting problems, they were vbery solidly bulit, and the 78/79 is the best looking truck ford ever produced. Maybee it was because i grew up with people who had them, but they are what made me like ford trucks.
