No power when driving

Hi, New to the forum and new to 7.3L Power Strokes, but I am familiar with 6.0 power strokes. I just got my hands on a 96' 7.3L DI Turbo Power Stroke. It starts great, WTS light comes on fires right up. Engine rev's fine, up to 3000. Battery's are good, fuel is good, no codes, no MIL, or CE light, but then comes the mystery, no power under load. Engage the clutch, pop her into first no umph, second gear, 1500 rpm, no umph, and so on. In about 3 minutes I can go from 0-25, in three gears, suppose to be a new clutch in the tranny, no smoke, at all. No slipping clutch. Just no power when the wheels hit the ground. With no codes where to start, it has about 186K on the odometer. I am looking for a direction to go. Thanks for any help.

I would check your fuel pressure and your oil pressure if possible

I can probably check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve if it is not to high. I do remember running a data stream this morning and I thought at idle the pressures were in the 800's. I don't know how to check the oil pressure? I am assuming your talking about the HPOP? Or actual oil pressure? No I really don;t hear a sucking or blowing sound at all, the motor is pretty loud, in comparison to my 6.0. The best way to describe the motor sound is a clacking sound, engine oil level is on the mark. Hope this helps with the diagnosis.

If you can do a data stream try to do it while the truck is on a load and see what happens to the oil pressure number. Yes high pressure oil. And yes you can use the Schrader valve for fuel pressure. Is the truck running louder then normal? Not the exhaust but the engine it's self.

If you were looking at live data and was seeing 800psi that was hpop psi. Fuel pressure shouldn't be above 70psi

Try unpluging the map sensor and take it for a drive.

OK i'll check the fuel pressure and disconnect the MAP and see if she will run any better. I will also pull the AF and change, along with the fuel filer. Thanks for the help

OK 60 psi fuel pressure bounces between 55 & 60. MAP was disconnected and power was better but still weak. Going to put in new AF & FF and check the return line filter. I am going to run another data stream while driving kind of a challenge with this truck in this condition. We will see what comes up, CEL came on when I disconnected the MAP. Not one parts store in Hawaii including the dealership has a MAP sensor for this truck. I will probably order one from Rock Auto. I will keep you updated as things progress. One guy I spoke to and heard the engine says it sounds like its missing because of the rough idle????? Everyone's got an opionion. I would rather trouble shoot it correctly find the root cause and move on, if there is another issue at hand. Thanks for the pointers and the directions

Some say not to do it but every once in awhile I'll dump the fuel in the filter and fill it with Powerservice.

If in 3 minutes you can only go from 0 - 25 then you have other issues than the MAP sensor; don't order one as it will not fix your issue and don't waste your money.
