1952 f 8 power train upgrade?

I just bought a f8 in great shape it has the lincoln motor Air brakes with a dump . But I want more power so I'm looking for the easiest engine swap and or rear end swap. Any ideas?

The F8 has a slightly longer engine compartment than the F1-6 series, so most any, more modern OHV engine will fit in there. No engine swap would be considered easy, but certainly within the capabilities of most mechanically inclined persons. It all depends on what you want and what your skill levels are.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum!

You bought an F8 with a 337 V8 flatty truck engine, 337's installed 1948/52.

FoMoCo was planning to install the V12 engines used in 1940/48 Lincoln's in the new 1949 Lincoln's, but at the last minute, the 337 flatty truck engine was used instead.

There are differences, internally and externally. 1949/51 Lincoln's were available with 3 speed manuals with/without O/D and 1950/51's with Hydra-Matic.

Nomally, the last thing I would EVER do is dispute any of your info re What's what in Ford trucks but I think you'll find that 1951 was the last year for the 337 Flathead in both the Lincoln car and the Ford trucks. The O.H.V. 317 was introduced in the 1952 model year in both vehicles.

Howdy,

I would do modern front and rear axles (so you can use modern 22.5" radial tires, wheels, and modern brakes and a modern pwr steering box) , a Cummins 6BT (12v) and a 10 speed Road Ranger.

ymmv.......

DON'T forget to post pictures! We love pictures!!

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html

Dale: Typo! I know that 1951 was the last year for the 337 flatty. Usually I read my posts after I post them to edit out goofs, missed this one. You'll notice however that I got the Lincoln apps right.

The 279 and 317 OHV V8's were Lincoln derived Y blocks installed in big trucks. You won't find any Lincoln w/a 279, 1952/55 Lincoln's came with 317's.

302/332 also Lincoln derived Y blocks, installed in 1956/63 big trucks. No Lincoln came with either engine.

Sounds like a nice truck. Where is it coming from? Dry Southwest? And I vote for a 6.9 or 7.3 NA IDI. Straightforward and stays all Ford, well, International. And where's the pictures?

I have a 1952 F-8. First year for ohv. The motor is a 317 lincoln y block. It is a remarkably big motor externally. I think a modern engine would slide right in. All depends on if you have enough $$$ to fill that dump body to pay for the swap
