351C to 351M

I just picked up a 1974 Ranchero with a 351C 2v from the top it looks like a newer crate motor but after I got it up in the air the bottom looks like it has never been pulled it seems to run OK no smoke at start up or running it has a boat load of vacuum leaks it has a FMX trans that seems to be leaking every were but it shifts fine my question is I have a 78 351M crate motor with a edelbrock 600 performer carb & intake with a mild RV cam that I have put about 40K miles on in a F-150 its been my daily driver I want to swap motors is there any thing I need beside a bell housing for the FMX to fit the 351M will the motor mounts be the same and will the oil pans and pick up tubes be the same I guess I'm getting OLD I use to just pull it and try to see if it fits lol but its a lot easier now to ask now than do all that work Thanks Guys

No way would I swap a 351C for a 351M! The 351M is larger, heavier and limited on performance parts... intake manifolds specifically. If you want to swap, swap in a 400 at least. If you really insist - a supercharged 5.4 under the hood would be pretty cool!

Might be tough to find a bell in that pattern for the FMX.

It's not quite a clear-cut as that. If we are talking stock, the *2V* 351C is pretty much the same as the 351M except for the bellhousing. The heads are the big limiting factor in both cases.

I am just trying to get it as my daily driver right now I seen a bell housing on craigslist for a 351M for the FMX so it just got me thinking about just using what I have to make it my daily driver I want to build the 400 that I have with after market heads I just don't have the funds to do it all at once being on a fixed income now that I am retired it's no fun it will at least get me back into a Ranchero I ordered a 73 Ranchero with a factory Drag Pack for my first car at 16 the dealer found me a R-code (Boss 351) that had been pulled off the line when someone backed out on it I sold it when I went into the Navy so now that I am retired I want to get back into a Ranchero this is me at 16 so I guess I will just pull the 351C and find out what I have to do to put the 351M it in at least until I get a really good motor to put back into it

I found a set of Edelbrock Performer RPM Alum Heads #61629 that I am picking up tomorrow I have a 351M that is a low mileage crate motor with a RV cam & a edelbrock intake & a 600 carb , a 400m mileage ?? and a 351C mileage ?? which is in the Ranchero now. I am thinking about using the 351M I know the bell housing is not the same but will all the rest of the stuff bolt on from the front of the 351C to the the 351M and 400M also will the edelbrock intake from the 351M fit the 351C with the new heads this is why I have never tried messing with all the after market stuff I'm 62 my MOTTO has always been just drop in the biggest motor I could find in the smallest car I could find
But I would like to try these new heads but I don't want to be looking for parts for the next month or longer
Thanks for any info

351m and c will interchange heads, but not manifolds. Deck on the M is 10.297, the C is 9.206. The M manifold is too wide for the C unless you use adapters. Don't know about accessory drives.

I know I'm late to this party, but I call B.S on this. They're nothing alike. The Cleveland has a much lighter rotating assembly. And a shorter deck, thus much lighter. The 351M was then and still is a TURD. It's nothing more than a destroked 400 with HEAVY pistons that come far short of the deck at TDC. The only thing they share in common is the bore and stroke and the distributor. And a few other ancillary parts.
