so, in terms of LPOP, is this the oil pump that lubricates the internal of the engine? where would i find it? just to see what it looks like, i went to ebay to look it up. what i see a lot is hpop and then something like a lobe/gear pump comes up. is this what you are talking about?

as for the oil pressure gauage, it works then it doesnt then it does, and so on. i have just considered replacing the oil pressure sending unit thinking maybe it is bad.

Lpop is on the front of the engine behind the crank pulley

the link you sent of the lpop is what i found on ebay. somebody asked if my lpop is working properly. i think its safe to assume it is because the resivoir has oil in it.

also, somebody also mentioned something about a link for the oil flow. does somebody have that handy? i would like to better understand this system, especially in terms of the hpop and the fuel; that is, how does the hpop get the pressure up to its about 3500 psi.

thank you

Here is some good reading that'll help you understand the Powerstroke engine and HEUI fuel/oil system
Ask a Mechanic - A deep look at the 7.3L Power Stroke

i was looking at a diagram from the reading material that fordpride sent me. from what i can see of it, the LPOP is located at the crankshaft pulley.

thank you for the reading material. i have not read it word for word yet, but i have purused it some. very interesting and very informative.

i do believe my pcm is fried. my tach stopped working, but for a little bit, my truck would still run. i installed the new CMP and pigtail yesterday and i lost my wait to start. i plugged my scanner in today and i get a communication error along with the check engine light on. I do have power to my cigarette lighter...Batteries are toasted too, will not hold a charge on either battery.

No WTS light means no power to the PCM. Check fuse #22 under the hood.
The cig lighter and OBDII port share the same fuse in the fuse panel in the cab

i checked the wiring diagram to understand the wiring for the WtS and saw fuse 22. the fuses under the hood and in the cab are all good. so i replaced the idm and the pcm relays just hoping that might be an issue, but it wasnt!

having no tach is an indication that the pcm is bad too. additionally, no WTS can also mean bad pcm because the WTS gets its signal directly from the pcm.

also, where can i get an in-cab diagram for my fuse panel? i found one for the engine compartment, but i cannot find one for the cab.

thanks.
