Rich, I might be able to come over there in a week or so and help out. I gotta put in a new water pump before I go on any longer trips though...mines puking out the weep hole bad enough as it is.

Maybe try putting some heat to the cup to help soften the adhesive.

Let me tell you about that one: I have a torch... but torch, fuel, and oil makes bad juju. I looked for the heat gun at work, but I couldn't find it. My wife loaned me a hair dryer - since I own no hair-care products. After 15 minutes of warming the cup with the tool on the cup, the hair dryer melted... and the tool just popped out with the slightest turn of the lifting nut (like always).

To recap: I bought more deep sockets, a torque wrench, an inspection camera, cup kit, 3/8" - 1/4" drive adaptors/extenders, 1/2" drive socket set, rented an injector cup tool, and paid mechanics to troubleshoot what was caused by me not getting the torque correct before my 2000-mile vacation... which damaged the cup. My Buck$Zooka is deflated by about a grand because I chose to install the sticks myself to save money... and that freaking cup is mocking me. Oh... and I owe my wife a new hair dryer.

It's been a week since I started this project and here are my accomplishments since last Friday: The VCs are off, sticks are out, fluids are drained, I own another $200 worth of tools, my wife has a new hair dryer, and I have one cup out.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Anybody need a brass wool blanket?

I'm starting to wonder if it's something with the tool. The only tool I've used is the one that looks like a tap, and it definitely grabs a bigger portion of the cup. I've never had trouble removing cups with that style tool.

I believe something Fish makes them with the tap design. Use to have it saved but can't find it.

Oh and I don't think it is possible to do it wrong. It either works or it doesn't.

Yeah, that isn't at all how mine came out. There were a few shavings, but not enough to fill a CCV canister with.

The other thing I noticed is it looks like the first threads didn't lock at all, where when I did it, only about 3-4 threads even engaged the cup. You can see the line of where the copper is

My thoughts are the first few times you engaged the cup and pulled out those threads that you cut caused the tool to have to engage further each time. I'd try the next cup, get it to engage really well before trying to pull. If it still doesn't work, either get clay to send you another one or scrub it and go with a different style altogether.

I have the 3/4"-14 bottom tap and everything I need to tap an injector cup... I just haven't ground the tip off yet. That sucker retails for $120, but they sold it to me for $70. I fabricated a guide for the tap to keep it from wobbling while I'm tapping and it will work real nice. The parts for the guide cost me about $5 at the plumbing section of Ace hardware.

As for the brass sheep trimmings, I'm pretty sure I'm over-torquing... but those cups don't want to come out and there is no sealant residual like what I saw in the video. I suspect these cups have been replaced before and I have no clue what they would have used for a sealant. For those who have done this before, does the residual in the bottom of the hole look the same as what you experienced? I didn't clean it before the picture.

Looks about the same to me, just remember the flat surface where the cup bottoms out isn't actually the sealing surface, and I imagine that is mostly carbon from the chamber that makes it through those ever so tiny voids.

The cup actually seals on the vertical wall, that's what you want to clean. I didn't use the special brush from ford, or go overkill on the break cleaner like the guy in your earlier video. I just used a rifle bore brush, then wiped it out best I could with a shop rag. Took my time mind you and made sure they were completely dry.

Below you can see why I wasn't that concerned with the brush. Looked like clean brass to me on that mating surface on the old cup. I imagined the mating surface on the head looked about the same.

Great tip! I have several gun-cleaning kits. I'll grab a shotgun brush and get on that when the last of these brass babies are born.

Where did you get that tap? I got mine at ace and I'm sure it wasn't more than 20 bucks. I know I didnt pay more than 40. I guess I meed to make another incase someone gets in a bind like you.
