I would start by finding out why your present system isn't working. It may be as simple as a bad ground on the computer harness. On the EFI 85-86 models there is a ground at the battery negative side for the EEC. On those it won't even start with a bad ground.

If you want to use an AOD, first, they are controlled by a mechanical connection from the throttle to the transmission, not like a C6 which uses vacuum and a downshift rod. If you go that route, I have a NOS throttle cable for a 300 with carburetor to transmission throttle lever (at least it was what was ordered). Just no brackets.

And it also has a arm with a vacuum advance on it, and controls the timing according to engine load.

Your TFI dist has nothing in it. The MSD just generates the spark. It doesn't know when to generate the spark, the dist tells it.
I'm talking about using Digital 6AL Ignition Control - 6425which I'm pretty sure does advance timing. You can get a wire harness that plugs it into the TFI module, replacing the computer all together unless I'm REALLY misunderstanding how it works.

I think you are misunderstanding how that ignition works, but call them first to make sure. I see a rpm limiter adjustment, but I see no adjustment or talk about a "map" that has rpm versus advance curve.

Dave, don't just love people who don't want to listen, but just want to throw aftermarket parts at it?

I think he is listening, he hasn't left yet. I think he will get it, there is a learning curve to some of this stuff.

I sometimes wish I could drive my truck like most people, and not know anything about what's under the hood. Just turn the key and hear something whirring under the hood, and when it doesn't work anymore, have the money to pay someone else to work on it to get that whirring noise to come back when I turn the key.

But then I listen to horror stories of people getting terrible service and never getting their vehicle right again. That and the money makes me want to know how it all works.

Dave, you have weighed in on my huge thread about what I am doing to my 86 F-350. You understand why I am doing a lot of it. BTW, last fill-up, 11.7 mpg, up from the 10 it used to get when I first bought it in 1994, and way up from what I was getting with all the government crap in today's gas.
