Cold night last night, did not plug in truck, went out to start this morning and got a no start condition (this never happens). I raised the hood and saw and smelled acrid smoke coming off the top of the engine with the key on. Glow plugs/relay burning up?

No codes. Fuel pump is working, engine is getting fuel.

I have plugged it in and I will try again in a few hours. I turned the key to get the codes and I don't see anymore smoke coming off the top of the engine now.

Any ideas?

Problem solved! Always check the simple things first.

I WAS 3 QTS LOW ON OIL! WTF! Can't believe I let that happen...

 

It happens,

My dipstick tube adapter flang was leaking leaking a couple of weeks ago and I lost 12 QTS before it shut off in less that 300 miles.

I am wondering if the acrid smell you detected was the AIH( if you still have one), mine rarely comes on but when it does it stinks like crazy, freaked me out the first few times.

nevermind, just read your sig, NO aih and with all the VO conversion stuff you have there is no telling where the smell cme from.
