Sorry I didn't read this whole thread. I just saw HPOP and Ohio and I got all giddy to help. Nate is correct. Lets make sure this is your issue before you go and spend your hard earned dough.
He has already tried cranking it with the ICP unplugged.
He says he knows it needs new batteries, but even after they were charged it cranked fast but wouldn't fire.
ITS ALIVE!!! ITS ALIVE!!!! but not without ether. Snort of that stuff and it starts and runs on its own. Shut it off and it takes another snort to get it going again. But she definately builds pressure. Shot the sensor on top of the HPOP res clean off ( i knida forgot to tighten her up) and she is sittin' street side, so tilted a little to the right, and now I have about 3 qts of oil on the ground.
Special thanks to Nate for walking me through this. Saved me a bunch of bones. And a thanks goes out to everybody that pitched in and gave ideas. Without you guys I would have spent far too much money trying to fix her. Since the injectors are gonna come out for new rings, she is gonna get new gp's as well (I would be stupid to not do it while the injecotrs are out). Then an oil change.
Does anybody have directions on the removal of injectors by chance?
Once again Steve, I'm glad to hear that you got it going. I agree that new GP's are a good idea while you're in there. I would also change the oil and install a new fuel filter so you can keep an eye on it to see if it gets all black. Then, honestly I would fire it up, drive it gently for a few miles so it gets warmed up then drive it like you stole it for a few miles to get the air out of the system. After that, if it still won't start without a snort of ether (remember the ether should not be used when the GP's are hooked up) I think you're in for a set of injector o-rings. If you can start it up easily with the new GP's in and the GPR hooked back up, then I would just keep an eye on the fuel filter in case it starts getting black.
I am really glad you got it up and running.
As far as the body work goes, I know you said that your truck was in rough shape, but there are a lot of us that are in the same boat. ......I'll show you mine if you show me yours, lol.
This is her "good side" from a safe distance. The other side boasts a smashed up fender and two dented doors, although it looks pretty good in this picture:
You wouldn't believe how ugly it is right now. With that paint scheme, the rust and the dark brown (bronze) color grandpa cap that is on it right now, I'm not winning any beauty contests. It really is kind of comical, the guys at work asked me a couple weeks ago "Is there anything you could possibly do to make that truck any uglier?" lol. I think it looks pretty decent for 400,200 miles. With any luck it will be going into my shop in a couple weeks for some major work, but you know how that goes. Working full time, a wife and three kids and going to school sure doesn't leave much time for wrenching.
Edit: c'mon Todd, post up some CCLB pictures of yours too we got nothing to hide here!
Ok Nate. I will get some pics of her posted on here. I will snap them today as a matter of fact. And while I am at it, I will snap the pics for the gp replacement as well. You will have to forgive all te extra wiring though. As my sig says,it has a nice big lightbar, flashers, and siren on it and that stuff has to draw power from somewhere. Hence the larger fleet sized batteries.
sorry boys im still not getting this upload thing down. picasa wont let me change my album to public so that i can share them.
But on the good side, my truck lives. I changed out the gp's, diconnected the ebpv plug, changed the oil, fuel filter and so on. She does start, a little hard though. Could still be air in the lines. Now comes the next test. She has been sittin for about 2.5 hrs. Im gonna try to fire her up on the gp's. Fingers crossed.
Thanks again Nate. You helped out a lot here. If I knew how to send reps I would do so in a heart beat.
