The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports the national average price of diesel at $3.927, an increase of 2.5 cents over this past Monday and 7.7 cents above the same week last year.

The Rocky Mountain region was hit with an increase of 5.8 cents, but has the lowest prices nationwide and is the only region seeing a decrease in prices from a year ago, at 8 cents. The New England region saw the highest prices at $4.181.

The price of diesel as reported by EIA for each region is as follows:


U.S. – $3.927, up 2.5 cents
East Coast – $4.023, up 2.3 cents
New England – $4.181, up 2.3 cents
Central Atlantic – $4.106, up 1.7 cents
Lower Atlantic – $3.931, up 2.7 cents
Midwest – $3.866, up 2.1 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.845, up 1.4 cents
Rocky Mountain – $3.736, up 5.8 cents
West Coast – $4.049, up 4.5 cents
West Coast less California – $3.946, up 3.5 cents
California – $4.137, up 5.5 cents

ProMiles, which surveys diesel prices daily at 9,400 truck stops, reported diesel averages at $3.904, down one-tenth cent overnight, with Oregon seeing a drop of 4.2 cents. The national price is 2.8 cents above the previous Tuesday’s average of $3.876.

In separate energy news, midday trading in New York showed light sweet crude oil prices at $96.18, up 30 cents from Friday and 5 cents above Tuesday. Light sweet crude is the type most commonly associated with diesel production.
