4 Wheel Drive not engaging 2002 7.3 F250

Hello,

Installed Warn manual hubs and I can hear the whirring noise when turning the dashboard 4WD **** and ignition is on, but front wheels not turning (stuck twice last week). Motor not engaging? Easy replace? Please advise. Thank you, Tommy

Follow up to 4 wheel not engaging

Replaced the transfer case shift motor. The old motor was working - when I pulled it off the transfer case, the shifter was in is the 4H position. As mentioned previously, I changed out the stock hubs with Warn manual hubs. Sounds like it could be the new hubs?? Or, is there some electrical connection that needs to be checked? The transfer case is in the 4H position and hubs are locked, but no front wheel drive. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tommy

Does your front driveshaft turn?

Do your axleshaft turn as viewed at the outer U-joints?

Yes, front driveshaft and outer U joints turning. Got to be the hubs, but brand new. I could messed up installing them or bought the wrong ones, but they slide in to place perfectly. I will take one off and compare diameter of shaft hole. Thank you.

Yep, sounds like a hub issue then.

I installed the 38826 Warn Premium hubs. I took one off and turned the outside locking mechanism and it doesn't seem to push the interior gear far enough on the shaft so that it locks. Seems like its missing a spacer or something. Any ideas? Thank you

I still have the stockers on my truck, but I know the Warn's require a nearly full turn to engage...I would make sure you are fully engaging.

Aside from that, make sure that the spacers(3 washers) are behind the snap ring on the axle stub shaft also that the snap ring is fully seated to hold the axle out. Odds of both sides having an issue seem slim, but just trying to think it through.

There's a hex nut and washer behind the snap ring and all seems firm and in place. I wonder if I have the wrong model # hubs - they just don't push the mechanism far enough on to the shaft. I'd like to put the stockers back on for now because i need 4wd. I don't remember if I need to add remove anything from the warn package. Any clue on where I can get a stock schematic? Thank you for your help.

It's not a nut, it's just an odd shaped spacer(washer).

That model number is the one that Clay sells as well, for the super duty's.

Again difficult to believe on both sides, but are you sure they are fully seated as well? I know the stockers can be difficult to install sometimes, to get them fully inserted.

The hubs don't move on the axle. They are always on the axle splines and engage internally.

Pictures needed.

Not sure if they are fully seated. They feel snug to the hub on the outside, but they are certainly not seated enough to engage. I will remove them and send pictures in the next day or so. Weekend is over and have to get back to work. Thank you for all the input.

Here's some information https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...he-forums.html

I personally like using a hosting site such as photobucket and just copy the IMG code and paste it in the reply.

Okay - got it fixed (for now). Removed the cover of the passenger side hub and the ring clip and pulled to remove the gearing and only the middle part of the hub came out. The rear ring clip had come dislodged (maybe not inserted properly at factory?) and the rear of the hub was on the shaft. Removed everything and put back together and working fine for now. Am concerned the rear ring clip came out. It did not look damaged. I guess the limited slop didn't allow the driver side to engage. Will follow up if more issues. T

It's been over a year since I installed the Warns. If I'd like to back to the stock hubs, can I just remover the Warns and plug in the stocks? I don't remember if there were extra washers, etc.. that i removed or added. Thank you for the photo upload info. T
