69 f100 4x4 HELP should I buy?

Hello all I am a first time fte member and I need some quality opinion on a truck I found. It is a 69 f100 4spd 4x4. To my understanding it is really hard to find a working 4x4 of these generation. It needs some body work and panels, 1500 $ worth at dennis carpenter + a box. I enjoy working on them and have a body man and journeyman welder that are willing to give me a hand. But It runs great and has a bunch of money stuck in mechanics -clutch, diff, pwr steering. I live I saskatchewan so it is especially hard to find these old boys. He wants 2250. Should I jump on this deal or are they more common then I think? Need some opinion from you guys who know what your talking about. Please help me out here

I don't see many 4x4s from that generation, but $2200 for a truck that needs $1500 of new metal seems high.

I'm not into "total restorations", though- your goals may be different.

Think of it this way.. it's a $750 truck with $1500 worth of replacement parts... add in the work that was already done and it's actually free!

When I bought my 73 it wore new 35-inch Goodyear Wranglers ($1000), a fresh brake job ($600), an Edelbrock intake and new carb ($550), uninstalled headers ($180), and a new steering wheel ($110)... the guy gave me the truck plus $800 in value.

Welcome to FTE buddy.

Pictures would help out a lot.
360 or 390? long bed or short bed?
Also what will the truck be used for? If you want it as a daily driver then your probably looking at about 8mpg. Better or worse depending on how you drive.

Not really rare. Having power steering already installed is a plus (if they did it right). One down side to those trucks is the transfer case does not have a low range. If you ever really need to use four wheel drive much, low range is very handy.
To me the price is a little high if the body needs a lot of work. It's the usual case that a vehicle just isn't worth all the money the original owner piled into it.

But, which type of P/S is it, since 1973 was the first year it was available with 4WD?

Is it Power Assist P/S (1973/75 F100 4WD, 1975 F150 4WD)? Or Ford integral P/S? (1976 F100 4WD, 1976/79 F150 4WD)?

390's were not factory installed with 4WD / 1968/76 F100/250 4WD: The only available V8 was the 360 2V.

And, on sale day, 360's magically become 390's!

I recall it being belt driven and having the dipstick. That help?

Rusty and rotten cab mounts are a pain in the azz. $2250 is too high IMO on that issue alone.. no telling about the rest of the hot spots for rust given it is obscured by the snow.

That pitman arm looks like it would contact the frame when in right-lock.

So if the cab mounts were good it would be a buy?

It seems like there is no other major rust spots cause I looked at bolth the hood and box from underneath and they werent eaten through, leaving only the hood...

When I go check it out next time I will see if it is indeed hitting, thanks for the sharp eye bud!

brush the snow out of the drip rails and have a good look there.

one of those photos shows a rusted-through bed support.
chances are, you're not going to find a good bed, so you may have to consider pulling that one off and repairing it.

i'm with HIO...the price seems high.
