03 Sport trac over heating help

I have a sport trac that is leaking water like a hose but don't know if its a hose or water pump. How can you tell?? I have the water pump housing to change but when I fill the radiator and look under truck I see the water dripping out by the back side of the engine. Since I don't know where the water pump would be I don't know how to fix. Can someone help so I don't get taken to the cleaners when I get it fixed.

use a mirror and a flashlight to try and see where its dripping from, dont sound like a water pump if its coming from the back of the engine. look good at the heater hoses.

Thanks I'll try and let u know. I know if I tacke it to a repair shop before knowing what the problem is I'll all of a sudden be replacing parts that aren't broke. So would that also cause my heater to not work as well. Cause it blow cold air instead of warm.

yes, if the coolant is low, the heater will be cold and you temp gauge might spike up and down since hot air is touching the temp sensor and not coolant. You dont have to have it fixed by the first mechanic that looks at it. Take to a shop that you have heard good things about. Ask them to take a quick look. A good mechanic will have a good idea of what to look for. Have him show you what your looking at. HE can give you an approx cost for the repairs. Could be a freeze plug, cut heater hose, leaking gasket on intake, etc. Water pump is in the front of the motor.
