Clutch pedal comes way to far out towards the dash?

I got in my truck today after driving it quite a bit today and i notice the clutch pedal reciedes way up near the bottom part of the dash. It looks like theres only 1 big spring underneath by the linkage. Would that possibly have wore out or is there something im missing? The clutch itself is fine after taking it for a trip to confirm, the problem seems to be in the pedal. What should i look for? Oh and truck is a 2000 Thanks

the snap ring has popped out of the master cyl. You will probably see the C clip dangling around the rod that goes from the pedal to master cyl. sometimes you can just reinsert the clip. other times you'll have to replace the master.

Good work Barney. I was going to point out the large spring fell out on mine and it sits pretty even with the brake pedal, but not exactly.

I cant seem to see a clip anywhere, dangling or on the floor. I should be looking inside the truck correct? I need to find a pic somewhere. Also is it safe to drive it this way because i need to use it for work? Thanks

It may have gotten kicked out or disappeared up inside the dash. IIRC its about 1/2 or 3/4 C clip. Yes you can drive it that way. the pedal is at its stop, it can come out any farther. I've had both OEM and aftermarket. and I've had both fail, so if you replace it, its your call. Bleeding is not as hard as some want to make it.
There is no bleed screw so all the bubbles have to come out the top. once the new master is installed, fill with fluid and leave the cap off.now simply pop the slave out of the bell housing and slowly push the rod in and release. about 25 times. recheck level and install cap. try you clutch. if it feels right, you're good. if its still a little soft, re-bleed. shouldn't be too much if all you change is the master. takes a little more if you're doing the slave.

I stopped at Ford and they didnt seem to have any idea what i was talking about or what the problem could be. I was checking online a saw a part number but it was for the piece that holds the pedal arm to the mount itself but i still have that. Where does the clip go? Is it somewhere on the rod itself? I have to find a part number somewhere but im not sure how. I cant seem to find any pics that help, or show me what im looking for either.

the clip is part of the master cyl. there is a small "bushing" or whatever where the rod goes into the master. You will have to replace the master cyl if you can't find the clip. Sorry your dealer is such a putz.
