You want a '94+ to get one with a factory roller cam.
You'll definitely want a roller cam. With today's oils and the constant reduction of the amount of zinc in them, standard flat tappet cams have a really hard life and are prone to failure unless zinc additives are used. I wish my 4.9 had a roller cam option.

Just learned something new here.
Any recommended additives that contain zinc that you'd recommend?
the 96 f250 and larger trucks retained the obd1 setup from 95.
Be careful with that statement. Many F250/350 with Cali. emission equipped trucks went to OBD-II in 1996. Oddly enough the 7.5L Cali. emission trucks were almost all OBD-II. But I have found a few references to the 5.8L versions, hit or miss, that are OBD-I or OBD-II with Cali. emission certifications in the same time period.
96 is the best year. Ohh and btw i have one i just rebuilt forsale
Would this be listed in the classified section? My motor is tired and lost oil pressure while driving home the other day. Id like to replace it with a 5.8 of the type being discussed here.

Okay, so after you do some reading, you'll understand why I brought zinc and zinc additives up and why a roller cam engine is the best way to go. There are quite a few zinc additives available on the market and a couple of engine oil choices that you can make that still contain the zinc a standard flat tappet engine really needs to be happy.
Let me know if you need more information on the subject.
