Fuel drain valve leaks...

2002 7.3. Opened the valve to drain the fuel filter and now it dribbles fuel. How difficult is it to fix and what parts are needed?

Give Guzzle a call for parts. If you are going to repair your drain, over haul your fuel bowl too.

It isn't too bad to repair while still mounted on the vehicle provided you have a 1/4" ratchet and the correct size Torx bit. You can rebuild the valve with a new set of o-rings or go with a new valve assembly (which is the more expensive option). Either way, make sure you clean off the yellow residue from the fuel bowl mating surfaces or the new parts may spring another leak.

Takes about 30 minutes, not bad at all. Like the others said, dieselorings.com has the rubber you need. I ended up finding some locally a long time ago at a hydraulic shop. They gave me a handful for free cause I didn't have cash and they wouldn't charge my card for $3 (my company does a lot of business with them though).

Here is the new Orings installed:

Here is the new and old rings next to each other...

It's either a T20 or T25, I can't remember. 4 screws. Really really easy to do with an air ratchet, but if you take your time a regular ratchet will work.

In the meantime, if you open and close the valve several times, it may lube up enough to seal for the time being...

EDIT: There is one more oring that is inside on the shaft. It will be in the kit from DieselOrings. I've never changed it and never had a problem.

It really is an easy fix. I've done this in a fairly short period of time and it definitely takes care of this problem. I'll echo what was said before about calling Bob at Guzzle's to get the replacement o-rings. If you don't use the upgraded o-rings from Guzzle, you will be doing this repair again sometime in the future. It may take a while, but the OEM o-rings are bound to fail again.

Thanks everybody for the info! This was a big help. I really thought I had a big problem on my hands, but once again the members of this site came through. Thanks again!
