Turbo rebuild / EBPV delete ??

In the middle of turbo rebuild and EBPV delete and have a question. In the pic below, can the bolt/stud? that the arrow is pointing to be removed? If so, how would I go about doing that?

Thanks for your time,
Tom

Thanks for the reply however mine doesn't look anything like that? As you can see in the pic, it looks like a large bolt for lack of a better description. Still not sure if/how I can remove it? Below is a pic of the part that I removed already. I assume this is the actual solenoid? There are no holes or ports in the "bolt" in the first pic so I don't see how this things functions??

Yes thats the solenoid. Maybe the pic I posted is from a superduty. But maybe the rod is similar and you just has to pull it, really IDK. Maybe some one else chime in here later, to learn us. And actually is an electronic valve.

I think I recall reading somewhere that the solenoid/valve regulates the flow of oil into the cylinder to actuate the push rod for the EBPV. Can't figure out how that would work since there isn't any opening or port in the "bolt" in the pic through which oil would flow??

Oh well, like you said.........maybe someone will post up an answer and we can both learn from it!

Thanks again,
Tom

It can be removed, I don't remember how. Here is a picture of mine. Don't mind the ugliness, I just covered the aluminum welds with jb weld to be sure it didn't leak.

So it looks like you just cut everything off and then welded up any openings?

Don't have capability to weld aluminum........yet! Looks to me if I remove the "bolt" which I am guessing screws out, I should be able to put a plug in where the "bolt" came out. Sorry to keep referring to it as "bolt" but I don't know what it is or is called.

I don't have the capabilities to weld aluminum either. I had someone else do it, even though it looked ok, I still put the jb on for my piece of mind.

The link I used to copy for my pedestal is of course not working. You can try to turn that stud out, if that don't work, cut it off. I just can't remember for sure.

Looks like two possibilites.

One,it will pull out since it has orings and will just push in.

Two, the cup plug below in the pic may have some sort of retainer inside.maybe a roll pin or something like that.
I have no personal knowledge. But may go study the sd one I have to see how it looks

I found this:

Turbo Pedestal Mod. Removing EBPV Actuator. Welding. - Diesel Forum - TheDieselStop.com

.... The suprise was the selonoid. It is just pressed in. You just grab it and start to saw it back and forth while pulling on it. It comes right on out....

Thin U drill out that expansion plug. The core bolt presses in so U have to pull the core out.

Thanks for all of the great input from everyone!!

Cutting that cylinder off makes me a little bit nervous. How do you plug/weld up that elongated opening at the right end of the cylinder in the pic without filling up the oil passage below??

If you look at mine, there is a piece of aluminum pipe cut and fitted over that spot, then welded on.
