2011 F350 6.2 Engine Problems

Anyone else having engine problems?

My 2 month old 2011 F350 has been in the shop for 3 days and may not be back this week. The engine developed a tapping noise at 2500 miles.
Ford service has diagnosed it as a Variable Camshaft Timing Solenoid and / or Cam Phaser. They may need to take apart the valve train to diagnose the problem completely. Been waiting on parts for three days and still not available.
Service department has called the Ford engineers to help with the repair.
I was told that the engineers want to try a few things, trial and error, to see if it fixes the problem.
I am also told that I am not entitled to a rental why my truck sits at the repair shop.

Thanks to FTE over the years we have solved many issues with our Ford Trucks.
I have searched the site and found similar issues with the 5.4 but not any with the 6.2 as of yet.

Does anyone have any ideas besides sitting and waiting for FORD to come through?

Sorry to hear about your engine problem, but welcome to the
forum apeldornls.
I guess at this point it is in their hands. Not good when they
have to call in the specialist. Why no free rental? That's the least they could do for you.
I have an F-350 on order...
Please keep us up to date.

This is the first problem I've heard with the 6.2. Keep us informed on the outcome. I hope they get you fixed up soon.

Truck is back

Picked up the truck tonight.

7+ hours of repair work.
Replaced VCT Solenoid which turned off the code.
Also replaced the Cam Phaser Assembly which included a camshaft sprocket, crankshaft seal, gaskets and a filter due to "sticking / noisy"

Hopefully it last longer than 2,446 miles this time...Maybe it will make it to the first oil change?

Truck could have been fixed much sooner if FORD had the parts available. They do not care about slow parts availability. Without providing a rental car they have no stake in speeding up any repairs. If they would have overnighted the parts I could have had my truck the next day. Nothing like being inconvenienced for four days.

Wow. Glad you got the truck back. Did they say what caused all of that stuff to go bad or was it just defective from the factory?

I didn't ask what caused it.
What could go wrong at 2500 miles except defective parts or a bad build?

Hopefully the 6.2 is not a problem child.

From what I read on this site they had a similar problem with the 5.4.
I never had a single motor issue with my 2003 5.4 that I traded in.

They should have provided a rental car, bad call by the dealer in not making Ford do so or for that matter taking it upon themselves to do it.

I dont think the 6.2 is going to be a problem engine. It's headed toward other uses in the ford truck line up. I agree with you, with only 2500 miles it had to be defective parts and probably a bad build on your engine. Glad the problem has been resolved. My truck runs extremely well.

Well as a used car truck dealer I have seen my fair share of bad cam phasers on the 5.4 engine...I figured it had gone away by the time ford built this engine....but one bad cam phaser dosn't mean anything sometimes we just get a bad part this new 6.2 powerplant is wonderful. I love mine the dealer I bought mine from would provide me a loaner might be an old Focus but he would not let me walk home, for 40 grand he better not.

Angry 6.2L No Parts

You are so lucky, I was unhappy with the Ford Sentra they provided. At 3208 miles a lifter at the #6 cylinder shattered and damaged the camshaft. It's been 36 days and there is still no expected delivery date on the parts. The dealer has had it almost as long as I have.

Dude, you are soooo glued; you might as well have bought a Ford.

Angry Trend

I really hope it isn't a trend. I'd like to drive my truck for a while if I ever get it back.
37 days and I'm driving a Ford Sentra.
