What up guys? 64 f100 update (pic heavy)
Long time, no see. Got short on money, you know the first thing to get put on hold. So anyway, back at it....here's where I'm at.
After removing the bed, grinding rust, using a heavy rust primer anyway, undercoating, stripping paint with acid to metal, priming, painting, clear coating, and bed liner (not in that order), I finally finished the bed and moved it out of the garage to bring in the truck.
I used Dupli Color dark emerald green metalic (or something like that). My choice in color was simply based on ease to get at the local parts store and being green. My grandfather had originally owned the truck and was a carpenter so he had painted the outside with a brush. I had assumed that he had just found a paint relatively close to the original and I wasnt going to worry much about trying to find and match original color.
After getting the bed outside:
I headed to my moms for Christmas (she lives in my grandpas old house), and of course I found this:
I jumped the gun and after some research (some from you guys....thank you, reading vin number), it appears he had found the original color, or something real close....so now Im gonna look at repainting the bed and doing the rest in this color.
PPG code 41833

Thats what I get for jumping the gun on painting the bed.
So now the truck is in the garage:
And after hours more of rust grinding and then more heavy rust primer, I still need to prime the underside of the back and undercoat the frame.
Then to figure out what to do with this:
So there we are....hope you're all doing well.

Well, got back at it for a couple hours today.
Pulled old shocks (swear they look like originals) and broke the mounts (#$@#%) lol....guess thats to be expected - no idea how much trouble that will cause.
Then got the undercoating over the heavy rust primer.
Sorry pics are kinda crappy.
Two steps forward, one step back. Ehhh, progress is progress.
Still enjoy working on it.

Appreciate it. Gotta figure out what do about broken shock mounts. Figure either Weld new bolts or drill all way out and put bolt all way through with nut on other side, then shock, then retaining nut. Guess i should post new thread and ask what everyone else has done.

Paint: I think the original color is Caribbean Turquoise and should be easy to get a paint house to match that. If the Dash is white it should be Wimbleddon (sp?)
Bed color isn't hard on the eyes imo
Can you find another truck and grind the rivets off to get the shock mount ? Bolt it in..
A torch is your friend, even a map gas / oxy mini setup will help with the stubborn bolts.
Looks like the progress is in motion

I really like the bed color as well, but now that I know the original Im gonna go that way.
I may have to if I cant figure out a way, maybe find one at junk yard.
Appreciate the advice, it appears that checking in to how to remove old bolts would be something I should have done much sooner, (imagine that).
Appreciate the positive comments, helps keep things moving

Going alright. I fixed the shock mounts and picked up a welder. You can check out various thread I've started through my name/page to see how I've done what little I've done (not saying thats right way) and more important see other peoples advice.
Going to the cab next.
Congratulations on your new truck. : )
