Cab swap questions
Im in the middle of going through my 87-88 f350 dumptruck from front to back. I call it an 87-88 because I think the cab has been swapped already, or at least the front clip. The cab on my truck is in terrible shape.
I found a 97 f350 drw with a 351w auto and I am considering buying it for the cab and front clip. I am pretty confident that the cab will bolt up to my frame without major modifications, but I am wondering about the steering shaft, and also curious if the 97 auto cab will have a factory knockout for the manual trans gearshift. The wiring could be my next issue, but since I will have a complete donor truck I could completely transplant all the wiring, if needed.

In order to use a 92-97 cab with a 87-91 truck, you will need to swap the dash(weld in mounting tabs) swap the harness(cut new holes in firewall and plug others). The hole for the shifter can be swapped in from the old cab(bolt in piece) But cab will BOLT right on, no different in mounting points

Thanks for the replies so far. My plan was to use the entire cab with the complete 97 dash and interior.
Any EFI wiring isssues could be cleared up in a hurry (I think) because my 460 is carbureted and I am switching to a mechanical pump with a single tank. Ignition wiring will be simplified as well with a HEI style distributor.
I would have to hope my 87 pedal assembly would hang in the 97 cab, and that there would be clutch interlock wiring built into the 97 dash harness. The slave cylinder looks easy enough to transplant.

I ended up missing out on the 97. The timing wasnt right for me to get there and pick it up. So I ended up settling on a 1989 superduty cab and chassis which is getting delivered to me today. The plan is to take the dump box off my 350 and use the superduty chassis. The superduty also came with the front engine accessories so I can convert my carbed 460 over to serpentine belt drive. Im sure I will have plenty more questions and I will try to get some pictures up soon.
