4r100 vs. 4r75 transmissions

I am replacing the 5.4L 2-valve engine in my '99 Super Duty 4x4 with a 5.4L 3-valve engine from an '06 E-350. I'll have the entire wiring harness, including every connector, from the van. My panic is whether the 4R100 trans in the pickup will have an issue with the programming of the 3V PCM from the '06 (which had a 4R75W trans - I also have that), or whether they are separately controlled. If the pickup was a 2-by, I wouldn't care about using the 4R75W and wire it all up using the van harness. But the 4R100 is almost 6 inches longer than the 4R75W and I have found no means of adapting the transfer case.

I would have thought the 06' E-350 would have the 5R110 (Torqueshift) trans in it?

Wow, I just learned something today.

DavidB, in the SD trucks, they have been stuffing the 5R110 behind the 5.4 since 2005. So, it would logically follow that the same transmission in the SD trucks would be used in the SD vans.

But it's not.

As per THIS DOC the 5R110(TorqShift) was only put behind the diesel engine, all others were the 4R75E.

Very strange...

A computer that ran a 4R75 trans is not capable of running a 4R100. It won't work.

That is strange but that document shows that the 4R75E was behind the 4.6 and 5.4 in the vans while the Torqshift was behind the 6.8 V10 gas and 6.0 diesel. And the Torqshift was behind all of the engines in the cutaway vans and stripped chassis.

That may be the case. I never kept up with the vans that much. It shows the 4R75E in the vans with the 4.6 and 5.4. I'm not sure why though other than your idea.

In the late 70's in the G.M. line you could open any hood and find a random engine... Olds in Pontiac... Buik in Cadilac....ect... It was like cracker jack under the hood. Heck you might even get a 350 chevy that ran on diesel... God knows what they are thinkin

95 F350 crew cab diesel

Just bought this truck with 151K miles. Transmission shifts hard when going into passing gear. Does it need a pan service, adjustments done or what?
Thank you for your help.

Also noticed the steering seems looser than my old 97 F150, is that normal?

Hello Debbye51 and welcome to FTE! You'll probably get some responses in here but will probably have better luck starting a thread of your own as it will probably get more hits and responses. Go to the top of the Super Duty/Heavy Duty forum and click on new thread. Then you can start your thread.

You may also want to start a thread here as well:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum170/

^ ^ ^This is the 1994.5-1997 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel forum. Lots of knowledgeable folks down there as well that can point you in the right direction.

I'm not much of a transmission guy so I can't help you out much there but others in these forums can and will gladly help out. Best of luck with it and again, Welcome to FTE!

My truck is a 7.3 International Diesel. 1995 F350 Crew Cab SD. Just got it today & it needs a few things. Couple of window motors, possibly an alignment. Just noticed driving it home the tranny shifts hard & the steering seems loose. Wondering if a trip to the tranny shop is needed or if a pan service will help it.

I thought so.. being that the 4R100 is an E4OD and the 4R75 is an AOD-derivative, is that correct? Do you have any suggestions as to my next step? Which one would be considered stronger? I grew up speaking "GM" and find myself in somewhat-unfamiliar territory with Ford electronics. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Brad
