Bedside repair (year compatibility/difference)

So I'm looking in the lmc truck book for the bedside repair panels.
What is the difference in the 80-86 vs 87-96. I can't picture the difference because I thought they were the same.

The 80-86 patches are $25 where as the 87-96 are $40

Where else do people recommend getting panels. Is there any place that sells a better quality thicker material patch panel.

It's in the wheel arches. Google pictures for the 80-86 trucks and the 87 up trucks and you'll see.

Edit - Here ya go... 80-86 Front fenders with 87-up bed.

Yep, 80-86 squared off at the top of the arches and have an extra body line/crease, 87-96 &97 250-350 arches are more round and don't have the crease.

Yup. I see.
Well that sucks. $15 more each side.
Oh well.

Just gotta suck it up and do it now. I'd tackle it in a second if it weren't my truck. But bring that it was my grandfathers it makes it a little trickier.

Very true brad.
If I knew that they were better quality then it would ease my mind about the cost.
I put a set of patch panels in a guys truck that didn't have a nice pronounced bend for the body line, it was more like a big radius. I'm sure the body guy made it work, and look good, but I want a matching crisp body line like factory. If I could see/hold the patch panel before buying, I'd pay the 40$ easily. But so many company's sell the same junk for different prices and it gets frustrating.

Mill Supply make the majority of the decent quality patch panels.

Done that several times. I don't use any patch panels unless that's all that's available.
