Hi guys, wondering if anyone can give me some assistance here. I have a 94 F350 with a 7.3idi and an auto tranny, but the motor is tired. Have found a 91 F250 with 7.3idi and factory ats turbo, but it has a manual tranny behind it. I plan to swap my tired engine for this older one with fewer miles (and with factory turbo). Anyone see a reason this can't be a simple swap? I plan on switching wiring harnesses between blocks just for simplicity sake but will the flywheels interchange? Any comments would be appreciated.
Not sure about the flywheels being the same, but they will have the same bolt pattern. The crank is the same. The major difference between the auto and manual is the FIPL on the pump, and the electronics that control the transmission. The pumps are the same and the FIPL is interchangeable. Use the newer pump and swap the FIPL and the wiring harness from the old motor. For the record, the factory turbo became available for the IDI through Ford in 93, so if it is a factory unit it was pulled and installed on the 91 after 93 but the block is the same.
Ok thanks for the advice. I have been assured that this turbo was ordered and installed from new by the owner right from ford. I was under the same assumption as you about the year the factory turbo was available. I am also curious whether I can swap all my serpentine pulleys over to older engine so I don't have to run the V belt setup.

Reason: another question
Main thing you need to know is that the 93-94 engines that came from the factory with the turbo had thicker rods, so the vibration damper and flywheel were balanced differently than the naturally aspirated 7.3's. Since your turbo was a retrofit on a NA engine, you will need the NA 7.3L balanced manual transmission flywheel for your swap.
Again the block is the same, so as long as you have all the components from your old engine they will bolt up. I swapped a 91 into my 93 with no problems.
Too bad the guy didn't put in a Sidewinder it probably would have cost him less and performed better, but the 093 is a big improvement over NA and with mods can do better.
