Gary the floor wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be especially after we cut out the old piece and I was looking at a big hole in my floor. First we set the new pan in and traced around the edge to see how much we had to work with. Then trimmed the pan a little depending on how the floor was underneath it. Then gave ourself a good inch or so and traced out another line. Went through and cut out the bottom line. Mine had little tack welds going down the frame every few inches or so, had to drill out the welds. Cleaned up the area where we were going to weld to and welded it in. We did both sides in a afternoon with taking our time. A week or two later I got the herculiner bed liner and rolled in two coats on the floor.

That gives me some hope of doing it. Did you butt the old with the new or overlap? And, did you drill it and weld back to the frame?

Looks really nice. FWIW, Archion tows a 23 ft travel trailer with his 86 F-150. I think he has 3.55 gears in his. Floor does look good, if I have to do anything with mine in the future I will probably do the same.

Before you put the carpets and rest of the interior in, check real well for water leaks from the cowl. There is a sticky under the information section on resealing. If the body shop did it for you, great. Other thing is the air inlet grille on these, the slots let leaves get in and will clog the drains on each side along with contributing to rust through. A piece of screen under the cowl cover will keep leaves out.

Overlapped and welded to the old. We didn't drill and weld it back to the frame.

I don't think I'm going to put any carpet in, the herculiner kinda gives me a nice durable floor that I don't have to worry about and easy to clean....as for the screen under the cowl that's a great idea, when I pulled out the AC stuff and the heater core the amount of leaves and pine needles in there was unbelievable.

Nice work on the truck, looks good.
Dumb question, what is SEM paint/what does it stand for? I assume its for interiors? Where can you get it?

SEM paint rocks!

SEM Products :: Home

I used it on my brother's Taurus last summer; did the dash, some door panels and some other miscellaneous interior parts, hopefully the rest will come this summer.

I agree with the book, this is best done with two people - Taurus Car Club of America : Ford Taurus Forum

There should be some stuff in the Tech Tips Sticky at the top of this forum, Em and some others have used it with good results. It is flexible paint, intended for plastics and other interior components.

I got mine at a local paint store. Rather than mixing to what the door tag codes say the color is, they color-matched the existing paint and made stuff to match.

Preparation is key.....

Very nice! Seeing what you have accomplished is very motivating.

I just got my 86 F-150 this past August. Only thing I've done so far was an oil change and air filter. Seeing your dedication tells me, I need to get on the ball.

Congrats, on a fine looking truck.
