6.9 Idi t19 pilot bearing

I'm thinking about swapping the t19 tranny out of an idi into another diesel. Been so long since I worked on that manual I can't remember exactly how the pilot bearing works. So I wonder if you guys could verify something for me, am I correct that the pilot bearing is in the flywheel and is independent of the crank? I've been working on transmissions with the crank bushing and I just can't remember if the idi's had anything like that. Appreciate the help. Thanks.

Yeah the pilot bearing is seating inside the flywheel hole. Not attached to the crank, the nose of the input shaft goes into it

Thanks for verifying that. That transmission might be a good one to adapt over because I won't have to worry as much about flywheel spacing and mostly about making the bell housing adapter. Should make the starter easier to bolt up too. It would be nice if the flywheel bolt holes matched up in some way to the mercedes diesel crank, isn't a big deal, just be nice. Wonder if the starter for the idi would spin the smaller diesel a little to fast.... I like overkill though.
