Pretty productive. I pulled the steering column out of the '79 in some cold *** weather and managed to get it torn apart. Now the fun part is trying to find parts for the tilt mechanism. Here are a couple of pics I snapped. I really should just start a build thread:
Okay, so why don't you? Damn slacker, anyway!LOL! I was hoping to find a tilt column for a stick from a 73-79. I don't even know if they made them, so I'll either use the one out of the 89, or get an aftermarket one.
All of the photo taking and sorting seems like waaaaay too much work
I believe they did but they are as rare as hen's teeth so best of luck with that. I know ranger429 converted and auto tilt to a manual for his crew cab build. I will see if I can find the thread and post the link for it.
Hey Corey, looks like you survived the snow experience, lol.
I know a few years ago, you could still buy the tilt mechanism for the column... my mechanic buddy in Helena found one and rebuilt the column in my 78 when I lived up there.
Morning Rob! They discontinued the actuators a few years back. Bill gave me a few leads to follow so I just need to make some phone calls this week to see if I can get one. Wish I would have done this sooner lol.
I see tilt columns on ebay quite a bit but never for less than a Benjamin.
