Question After Market Warranty

I'm new to the diesel world. I bought an 08 f350 srw in August. I love the truck but see that having things repaired can be a little pricey. My truck keeps going into regen and I'm watching my mpg drop. It was 14 mpg when I bought it, buts it's down to 11.2 now. The factory warranty ran out before I bought it. Ford has been no help. Prob gonna delete, but wondering how it will effect inspections in Delaware. I was thinking about the after market vehicle warranties that you see on tv for any other issues that may come up and was wondering if any of you have had any experience with them.

no experience with any other then Geico. But you cannot get that based upon the age of the truck.

How far apart are your regens?

You'd be far better off taking the money you want to spend on a 3rd party warranty and investing it to have around in case you have a major breakage. The delete works wonders for the engine but I have no idea what your inspections require, worst case you save the DPF and reinstall it before inspection.

Have you gone to a Ford dealer and ask them about a warranty? I went to my local dealership and they would only sell me the lower end ESP for 3k...I then drove to 15 min down the road to another dealership and they sold me the premium ESP for the same price..My truck was out of the 5yr w/ 63k on the odometer when I purchased it from a private party...The after market warranties are tempting due to price..but you need to read and understand what they are offering..more important what they are excluding...My service manager told me that a customer had a 3rd party warranty and when his tranny went out..they would only fix it with a used tranny or offered him to pay the difference if he wanted a remanufactured one from Ford...not to mention it took a couple of weeks before the guy got his truck on the road..which seems like a long time. Good Luck

One thing you need to realize is that if you delete, you need to plan on being denied should you file a claim for at least the Powertrain and potentially the PCM.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize I could have the DPF re-installed if needed. My truck goes into regen about every 50 miles or so and last about a mile. I'm out of all warranties. I think I will just put money aside for any repairs and research the preventive maint. I talked to one company and they were telling me to go with the mini max tuner. Do you guys have any recommendations?
Thanks

With an 08 and frequent regens, your DPF might need to be washed out. I believe you can take the DPF off nd just hose it out real good and let it dry. That should help. Especially if the previous owner did a lot of city driving.

The regen message only stays on for a few seconds now, can't imagine how it could even try to regen for only a mile. I remember smelling hearing mine just getting ready to regen for 5-10 then finally doing it for another 10-50 depending on driving done before hand.

I went with the minimax and like it and don't see those 9-10mpg on the LOM any more. Rarely get under 11 now while towing, did today with some terrible headwind.

As mentioned, keep your money instead of WASTING it on an Aftermarket warranty.

As a retired Assistant Service Manager, I've seen lots of these Companies DENY repairs, wiggle out of payin for repairs or pay for ONLY part of a repair.

I prefer & suggest Ford ESP or do without

When I worked for Ford, You couldn't buy a ford ESP After the factory warranty had expired ...... Idk

As far as the mileage drop, winter blend fuel and warm up time always knocks a couple mpg's off.
