Cruise control stopped working/Remote start question

My cruise control stopped working for whatever reason. I don't recall when, I just recall it working then randomly not working. The dash light doesn't come on or anything. No blown fuses or anything.

The only thing I have to work with is that when I push the "ON" and "COAST" buttons simultaneously, the horn beeps. So basically these two functions when pressed together are activating the horn as though I'm pressing the steering wheel center.

Any ideas what to do in order to remedy this? Where to even start?

Secondly, the remote start stopped working, entirely unrelated to the cruise control. It's been out for some time now but I've been too lazy to look into it. The system cycles like it will start, but then goes back to it's normal dormant state. I also noticed that around the same time the remote start stopped working, a small red light next to the OBDII port under the dash began blinking intermittantly, and has not stopped since, regardless of key on/key off, running/not running. Remote locks still work as normal, as does the panic button.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Check the switch on the brake master cylinder.
Seems like they had a recall on them.

I had to replace mine as the CC had quit. Brake fluid leaking out of it, had it shorted I believe, just like the brake had been depressed cancelling the CC.

The switch (SCDS) on the master cylinder provides operating power to the CC module. Under normal operation, it is supposed to open when braking pressure in the MC exceeds a certain pressure so that it functions as a redundant disconnect for the CC in the event of a BPP switch failure.

The 05S28 recall installed a fused harness in the SCDS supply circuit so that, if the switch leaked and shorted out, the fuse would blow and the truck wouldn't go up in flames. Switches that were leaking at the time of the recall were replaced. If it wasn't leaking, the original pressure switch was left in there and only the harness was installed.

While the recall was successful in preventing fires, it did leave millions of trucks with switches that were likely to fail. For the most part, it wasn't a question of if they would fail, but rather when. The symptom when the switch fails is that the cruise no longer works. Troubleshooting is easy - first inspect the switch connector for fluid leakage then check the switch and fuse for continuity, if needed.

A replacement switch and fused recall harness is about $20 at the Ford dealer's parts department.

I did bring the truck to the dealer and they completed the recall repair. That is the first thing I will check! Thank you!

same problem

I checked the switch didnt look like it was leaking. So do I check the continuity by unplugging the wire where it connects to the switch or where they connected the fuse to the wireing
