7.3 Fuel Mileage questions

Have a 2003 DRW C/C 7.3 2wd long bed. Only have 106K on it so far. Fuel mileage is 15 around town and 10 on the road pulling a 24 ft enclosed car trailer. Been all over the country and no change when trailer is empty. Friend with 4wd gets better mileage. Well maintained stock truck. Any suggestions on where to begin for improved mileage would be appreciated as I plan to keep this truck forever.
What chip do readers recommend?

I'll bet that he has a chip or the truck is slightly tuned. That would be my guess. Also, a dually will get a little worse fuel mileage than a SRW.

You may have a 4.10 rear end also instead of a 3.73 which is going to make a little difference as well. Look at your door sticker and see what rear end is has.

Driving style plays a big part, drops off steadily after 50. Drive really easy in town try to time lights and such. I can get 20 mpg at 50 and only about 16 at 65 mph. Of course you can't drive 50 on the interstate haha, but there are some long stretches I drive 50 and that's where I get the best mileage.
