Those Worn-out Hood Lifts. . . .Gone

The hood lifts have been slowly getting worse the last several years, to the point that I would have to push the hood up several times before the lifts were pumped up enough to hold it open. Even then the wind could and did blow it closed, and more than once on me.

I ordered a pair of Monroe Max-Lifts (P/N 901377) from RockAuto last week. Came in the mail about an hour ago and after installing them I couldn't help but wonder why I hadn't done this years ago. I have never had the hood actually lift up on it's own from half way open. It does now. No more using an old towel bar to prop it open to make sure it doesn't fall.

I'm sure these lifts are at most auto stores but I was on RockAuto anyway and just got them. $11.26 each, but with tax and shipping the pair cost $32.27. What the hell, it saved me a trip to the store.

So if you have ever had the hood give you a love tap it is time for new lifts.

What I don't have to have a pair of vice grips locked on them anymore? I would not know what to do if I didn't have to hold the hood open with my head when filling the power steering pump.... I had it slam on the air filter once... that is not good on the filter at all. I guess I will have to get a few sets of these.

Yeah. Easy stuff that makes you go "duh" when you finally do it. They're $10-12 at autozone and take 10 minutes to change.

OH YEAH! The day before I bought my truck, they let me drive it home for the night. Dad and I had just turned away and walked to garage. Hood was up looking at motor.

BAM! We both turned around and the hood was shut. Wow that was a close call.

My first mod to my beeyoutiful F250 was new hood shocks from Advanced Auto. Think they where $40 for both.

Now it opens itself. LOL

Wow, just saw that about an employee that protected the businesses assets. That totally sucks. I can say with honesty, if I had a concealed handgun license I would be carrying and have done the same thing. Now to get the concealed handgun license.

I was just thinking about new hood struts today because when I went to change the oil on the X, lifted the hood and it just stayed in the half open position and had to push it the rest of the way.

You guys must be under your hoods too much! Mine is still springing open and fighting me when I try to close it! Or maybe I'm not under there enough....

One of these days I will get tired of the hood closing on me. Until then the jack handle works as a good prop stick

Niel,

American's generally have such short memories.

But some of us don't.

I have not, nor will I ever, step inside one of their establishments until they re-hire (with a substantial raise) and make a full apology to that brave kid.

Of course they won't, and I won't.

I replaced mine from Oreillys a few years ago.

I have moved a lot of my business to Oreillys because of their willingness to order stuff, and they will hold it for about a week to give you time to get there.

I replaced mine several years ago with OEM Ford units, not even thinking at teh time that aftermarkets would be available for less. The new OEM units, even from Ed, were like $18-$21 each, and Ford uses two separate part numbers, one for each side, and wouldn't you believe it... each side is priced differently from the other, but either part will work on BOTH sides!! I learned a valuable lesson on that day, and this thread simply expands my lesson a little broader.

Thanks, Robin.

Me too, 'cept it has more to do with age than being American, I'm afraid.
