When the cats away...the mouse will play....

So my wife was away this past weekend visiting cousins for Christmas which left me alone in the house with no adult supervision.

What did I do?
Smoke cigars in the house? Nope
Let the cat sleep on the good furniture? Nope
Set up a pole and bring skanky strippers in? No, worse than that....

Cleaned the transmission parts in the kitchen sink and in the tub.

My cellar has turned into a workshop since it's too damned dark and cold out in the garage. I turned an area carpet upside-down to do the dis-assembly work of the T-87 crash box and then brought the small parts into the kitchen sink for degrease and wash. The bigger parts went in the tub - the only one in the house. Links to pictures below.

To conceal my horrible actions I scrubbed the areas afterward and left a decent amount of dirty dishes in the sink.

Now I gotta remember to unsubscribe to my thread so nothing shows up in my e-mail......

Brave. Very brave.

Unless she finds out.

Then it's stupid. Very stupid.

Best wishes on remaining a brave man!

Hmmm I wonder what this will cost you...blackmail wise. FTE is world wide.
But seriously You can get a galvanized water trough and a small pond pump from a farm supply or tractor supply and a couple gallons of purple clean or the cleaner of your choice and use it as a parts washer for future use if you have anymore large items to clean.
Some parts will not fit in those dinky little commercial parts washers.

Still planning the next move.....how to spin the transmission through the gears to test the re-assembly quality when the time comes. I'm thinking about the washing machine motor and a drivebelt on some type. Maybe the starter motor and a six volt battery.....hmmmmmm

Next time, use the diswasher. Just don't use the dry setting if the parts had gasoline on them.

Gotta be a story behind that, what happened?

Holy smokes If I got caught with greasy car parts in the dishwasher you'd be reading about what happened to me on CNN. I'll take a chance on the tub....but the dishwasher is the difference between taking a simple beating and getting chopped up with kitchen knives and fed to wild coyotes.

Some of my truck parts have been washed in the kitchen sink and the dishwasher too. The difference is I got my wife to do it.
Life is good.

As a teenager I used mom's dishwasher to clean up the valve covers, front cover, oil pan, and intake manifold of a 318 Dodge. It all went well until I went off with some buddys and mom got home before I did.
......not pretty (well, the parts looked great...the ensuing arguement wasn't pretty)

Dishwashers are great for cleaning parts! Dishwasher detergent is nasty stuff if you get it on your skin.

When my favorite baseball cap gets to dirty, my wife will throw it into the top rack of the dishwasher for a good cleaning. I avoid auto parts in these days!

Back in my single days I cleaned parts off my MG all the time in the dishwasher. It did a great job. Now I could get in trouble for just thinking about it.

So what everyone is saying is I should get a cheap used dishwasher for under the work bench in the shop and use it as a parts washer? I kinda like the idea.

Dishwasher? Why didn't I think of that? I washed them in the kitchen sink but was careful to wipe a lot of the grease off first with her dish towels. I was trying to be careful. The doctor says I made a full recovery and can go home from the hospital tomorrow.

I used a dishwasher years ago to clean a 302 while rebuilding a '70 F-100. Worked great and the best part was, I did it in the apartment I was renting at the time, no wife, no guilt !
