1973 Ford F-600

I am trying to figure some things out for a close family friend of ours. He has a 1973 F-600 with a 2 speed rear axle. For quite some time he has only been able to drive the truck with it locked in high range(only uses it to haul occasional loads of logs and gravel). If he leaves the switch hooked up and tries to actuate the shifter/switch the electric motor just stays running and the axle does not shift. I am trying to figure out exactly what axle he has under the truck and see if there is a possibility of finding a parts breakdown and/or picture of the shifter assembly.

Here is all of the information that I could find when looking at the VIN Tag:

VIN: F60DCS43258
WB: 194"
Model: F602
Body: 438
Trans: A
Axle: F3J

If anyone can help me decode this information I'd appreciate it very much.

Welcome to FTE!

Eaton two speeds were in F600s and others going back to at least 1948.

Eaton info in post two below. Stand by for decode info on your codes. Good luck with it.

Probably not related to the shifter problems, but you may have to deal with it: The NP435's shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) has two notches, is retained to the shift tower by two visable pins.

This spring loaded cap must be pressed down and held down while turning it to remove it. Peeps that are unaware...use pliers to remove it, which tears out one/both of the notches.

The 1973/79 Ford HEAVY Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com / I have it...on microfiche, so cannot post pics from it.
