Looking for 92-96 Flareside

I've been searching on the net for a another truck.
Saw one on eBay that caught my eye (92 Flareside, std cab).
I like the look, and checked out what KBB says it would be worth buying from a dealer.
It has 110K miles, 4WD, 5.0L automatic. Nothing too fancy, but very clean and decent miles for it's age.
KBB says it's worth about $4500. (I'm in Idaho, but will go to any state, west of the Rockies, if I can find a good truck).
The dealer wants almost $6,000
I thought I'd offer him $5,000
here's a pic (sorry for the clarity)

Thoughts?

Hey Puddy,
thanks for that tip. Out here in the west, they tend not to use salt for snow, and the air is dryer, so rust no so much an issue.
But then I don't know where this truck 'came from', so that's a good point on checking. :-)

on the $4500 price. Ya think they'll come down that much?
I'm not familiar with the fine art of purchasing vehicles from dealers.
I've only bought 1 car from a dealer my entire life (I'm 57 now). Everthing else was private parties.
I heard all the slick stories these guys will do to get you to sign.
So, do I just walk in and and say "here's $4500 for that truck" " take it or leave it"

Cheers

just keep explaining the amount your going to be putting in it, such as maintance (when was the timing chain done? when was the water pump done?, fuel pump?) keep feeding the dealer into thinking that they have a money pit in their hands and you start lower than say 4200, then they say no, then you bring in other paper work of similar trucks for sale and their prices. (this truck was probably a trade in) so they arent really making any money on it, (or they are trying as most stealerships go).
Be up front and confident, because they will test you on negotiation.
if he goes higher than 4800, walk away, bring 4500 cash and it could be a simple day.

I'd check for any little problem you can find and use it to negotiate. See if you can get more pics and post them so we can see it better. And by the way, there is NO way that truck came with a 5.4. It's most likely a 5.0, maybe a 5.8, seeing as the 5.4 wasn't used 'til the 10th gen F-series ('97-up).

I paid $4,500 a year and a half ago for mine, 110,000 miles and in great shape. I bought from a Ford dealership. I went in armed with knowledge of what they were going for. They may thnk they have something but they are not very rare of a find. I found plenty of them, many down in Texas.

Yep, that's a 302. I just had to point it out cuz you'd never believe the people that post that they have a '92 with a V6 and what not.

Does the truck book for $4,500 in perfect condition? I've looked it up on my old flareside and I thought it topped out at like $3,500. That being said, unless it looks showroom clean and no rust, I'd probably go no more than $4k for a regular cab of this vintage. If you were closer, I'd offer you a good deal on my old one. The 302 is a great motor though, nearly impossible to kill, just a little underpowered for a truck. I ran mine with a leaking head or intake gasket for 6mo before I could swap it for a 5.0HO from a mustang back in July.
