wont start, fueling spitting out the top of carb

Hello. I have a 1977 ford f150 with a 400m. Originally my grandfathers truck, so i'm not sure what all is original and what all is old man fabricated. It was running fine going to and from work. Yesterday I drove it out and about a little. On my way home it started struggling to get going. Well I noticed the linkage from the tranny that hooks to the throttle was off. So i hooked it back up, thought now was a good time to replace plugs and wires and get rid of the stock air cleaner. Got it all back together and now it cranks and cranks but won't fire up. Every 3rd or 4th time around I get a gust of fuel coming out the top of the carb. Thanks in advance for the help.

Won't let me post pictures yet. Also, i changed the oil cap on drivers side to a crankcase breather(the lil air filter). Passenger side is now my pcv valve running into the carb. There was a small line for egr hooked up to the stock air filter. Now it is just open. Should i plug this or run it into.....?
