4.2 to 4.6 What's needed??

I'm thinking about changing my 2000 Ford F150 Flareside 4.2 5 speed to a 4.6 .
How difficult is it ez medium hard??

What transmission to use??

I should get a pcm from that year engine.

What else??

This won't be the answer you want to hear, but it will be far cheaper to just buy a vehicle that already has the 4.6 in it, plus you won't have a vehicle disabled for 6 months while you look for parts.

best way is to get a doner truck that is wreaked or a tow yard special. use it for parts on your swap im doing the same swap to the 4.6 myself.

x2, you will probably even be money ahead at the end of the day. Or you could upgrade other things as well. Serving suggestion, ymmv.

although buying a running factory f150 v8 is the fastest, its uswally not the cheapest. a wreaked f150 can uswally be had for 1000-1500 depending on miles and features. i bought a engine trans seperate and then bought a 99 expedition for 200 running and drove the expedition home. the expedition is a 5.4 4x4, which i dont need but all the v8 parts i needed are there and would have spent alot more to get. sold over 200 in parts off it and now have a 5.4 and 4r100 4x4 setup for sale. when its all said and done my swap actually paid me, just have down time for conversion
