1977 P600 Wheel Help

OK, so I just bought and a 1977 P600 and have been searching the internet for wheel help and most times I end up here. So I joined, seems like a great site. Anyway, here goes.. my 77 P600 has 700-18 tires on it that are terribly cracked and not worthy of being on any road. Local tire stores say these are special order and prices quoted are spendy. I don't like a few things about this situation, mainly that the tires will not be readily available if you need another. Since this truck will be fixed up and driven, I need it to be safe and easily maintained. I think I have concluded through research that my wheels are not widow makers but still require special attention due to the lock ring design. Sooo...

1) Since they are cracked and in terrible condition, how should I safely remove them from the truck?
2) What tubeless wheel options do I have for this 6 bolt wheel pattern (don't know the exact details yet)?
3) Any reason not to take the wheels off and have them stripped and powder-coated and just get some new shoes on them?
4) Many more questions... including brakes, etc!

Thanks!

By the way, I had a thought to just find an older or wrecked class A motorhome and take the complete axle assemblies with wheels/tires and put them under the P600. This would get me tubeless tires and also, depending on year, some upgraded components such as brakes and so on. Sure, would need to carefully check widths, deal with steering and driveshafts, brake adaption and so on. But since old or wrecked motorhomes are cheap, seems a reasonable option.

There are tons of 19.5 tubeless wheels in the 6 bolt pattern. What is the diameter of your tire? Can you find a 19.5 tubeless tire in that diameter?

19.5 specs:

Thanks, great info. So just to be sure though... the 6 bolt lock ring wheels I have share the same bolt pattern as more modern 19.5 wheels and they would also clear the brake drums, etc? This would be great since overall tire diameter would be almost the same as what I have. For some reason though, it seemed I kept finding that these wheels would not work on my application. I have spent many long nights researching this so the information is getting blurred, hope to get a confirmation of the 77 P600 6 lug wheel bolt pattern and that it WILL work just switching to a 19.5" wheel. That would be great...

If 18s clear, 19.5s should, unless there is something different in the wheel/drum design(???)

Do your wheels look like these?

Do the UPS trucks I see with the big 6 lug wheels have the same bolt pattern? Still trying to confirm what to look for when I am trying to find wheels to bolt up to this. Thanks!!

UPS 6 lugs are probably, most likely, the same 6 on 8.75" pattern. Besides the pattern, you need to look for the hub diameter to make sure the wheels will fit over your hub. Some of these wheels--newer ones-- are hub piloted. Older, such as your existing wheels, are stud piloted and used a chamfer in the wheel and a tapered side on the lug nut to center the wheel when you tighten them down. Either way works, you just have to make sure it works on your truck.

FWIW, most of the UPS stuff out here is newer and you don't see many gas Ford chassis models. This is the time of year when they put everything on the road, so you may have a better chance of seeing an old 6 lug.

IF the UPS truck is a Ford chassis, the wheels are the same as the OP as far as bolt pattern and hub.

On new stuff, Isuzu/GM trucks use this same pattern. Not sure about the hub size on those.

I have 6-6 lug tubeless rims in my garage, 19.5 diameter. Still have old tires on them, and they came off a dodge mobile classroom that had rockwell axles on it. I sold the diff to a friend who put the pig in the axle on his C600 ford. So these rims would fit.

If you plan to change the tires yourself, and you don't know what your doing, the lock ring can be extremely dangerous. I would look into replacement wheels if it was my vehicle, the 19.5 will be much easier to find wheels for, and I believe the cab over engine Izuzu trucks also use the 6 lug 19.5

Thanks for all the input- good stuff. As for 6 lug UPS trucks, they are everywhere out here.. but seems UPS trucks and parts are hard to source. But what I have come up with is Accuride P/N# 29388, it's a 19.5" 6 lug on 8.75" bolt circle and 5" offset. I can get these local for $180 wheel new and "think" they should work. Would prefer used though, will send you a message 1960fordf350.

My research tells me that Isuzu NQR 19.5" wheels should also work. They are listed as a metric size for the bolt circle (6 x 222.25mm) but the conversion comes out to exactly 8.75". Others have said they used these wheels- seems legit. If only I could find a set of used ones locally
