Replacement FICM for a 2004 F-250 SD

Hi,

Has anyone ever bought a new "improved" power supply from Bullet Proof Diesel to replace the stock one in the FICM for your 6.0L PS in your truck? Their web site looks impressive and they say their power supplies are better than the stock ones but I'd like a second opinion.

Any comments?

Ed at ficmrepair.com is the best option, he will not only go through it and fix it he can also throw a tune on it. Well worth it in my opinion.

Ford made the stock FICM the way it is for a reason. Its got plenty of power and already gets hot enough. any tune would cause more heat, then who knows how long it will last. Might put out some power tho.

I'm not knocking Ed because he's great at what he does. And he's usually the least expensive option for getting a FICM up and running again. But the Bulletproof FICM is well worth the money. Search some other diesel sites on the net and you'll see there's a lot of people running them (48v, 53v, and 58v) and very few, if any, complaints. I have their 6-phase FICM in my truck (58v) and noticed a substantial difference in mid-range power over the OEM 48v FICM. Yes, my FICM was good (never dropped below 47.5v at any time) before I upgraded so I'm not comparing a bad FICM to a working one.

When it comes to new and improved stuff, the test of time will be the judge.

Let us know in 4-5 years, and or 60,000 to 80,000 miles.

I'm assuming that was directed at me, so I'll respond by simply saying the same logic applies to what Ed is doing. Right?

Sure, but we really have zero idea what a "Hot" 58v ficm is going to do long term.

Let's talk again in a couple years.

I think the OP is in the market for a new FICM now and doesn't want to wait a few years. FWIW, my first OEM FICM lasted 3 years. My second OEM FICM lasted 3.5 years. To me, there's room for improvement there.

On a related note, you can run the Bulletproof FICM at 48v.

Thanks guys. Call me chicken but I ordered a rebuilt one from The Diesel Store. It's a rebuilt stock FICM. I'll see how it goes. The truck is goog to go but the FICM only puts out 37 Volts right now. I'll get the rebuilt next week and I can't wait to install it. I think I'll be ok after that. The truck is sluggish at the low end but I think that will solve that problem. Lets just say it's a Christmas present for The Beast.

Cheers

What made you decide to buy it from The Diesel Store after getting so many "other" recommendations. Did someone convince you that they did good work?

I'm curious about that too. Ed has a fantastic reputation.

Does BPD even offer the 4 phase anymore? $495 isn't too bad, but $695 for 6 phase is out of touch IMHO.

The biggest knock on BPD is no returns which equals no warranty. $325 and you have a 2 year warranty with Ed.
