Does anybody Have a 2.0 in an Explorer?

I have heard many people hypothesize that the 2.0 will be too small for the Explorer. However, for around town driving with no towing, I wonder if it might be fine. Any actual owners out there willing to share your impressions? jag

We have it in a Taurus and could not be happier. It is not a small car, im not sure of the weight differance between the Taurus and Explorer but I think it would be ok. Probably not what we would call fast but definitely sufficent.

Thanks, that's good to know. Did you pay a premium price to get the 2.0? Jag

Yes I just checked and it was a $995 option. We have about 400 miles on it now. Just going by the car and the wife doesnt really do much highway driving. We are getting 26.7 miles per gallon. For 99% city driving we are very happy. I drove it last night with friends and my buddy didnt believe it was a 4 cylinder even with a turbo. Again very happy.

My wife has a 2.0 in an Escape, and we are very happy with that too. But, you really should drive the Explorer with the 2.0. That weighs 1,000 pounds more than the Escape, so it will be a different feeling. I think for commuting it would be fine.

Well, we went down and test drove a base unit Explorer on Friday. It had the 6 cylinder in it with most of the same options as its expensive brother the XLT. We found the ride to be rougher than expected and the seats were not comfortable. We sat in the XLT with the leather seats and they were the same; realitively hard. So, my wife has erased the Explorer from her list. Jag
