OT: Why there is nothing better than FTE

So we recently bought a 2001 Dodge Durango.....I know...hindsight.... At any rate We've been having problems with a misfire. I joined a Dodge forum and searched and searched, posted thread after thread. No good results, only smart a** punks and silly remarks which makes this engine problem all the more frustrating. I always get great help and serious responses here, its a shame that it seems it only exists here... So in case some of you pros come across this thread maybe you can throw me a bone on an unrelated vehicle. 01 durango 4.7, My main question after replacing a few parts is... why would my air intake temperature sensor (located on the top of the Intake manifold) melt the sensor node? While in operation the sensor reads 300 degrees, Thinking it was a computer malfunction and surely that was an incorrect reading, I removed the sensor, started the truck, using a laser thermometer, shot down the sensor hole and in less than 5 minutes of idle the inside temp reading was 205 degrees? WTF? Cracked head? Originally I thought we had a misfire on 5 and 6 , however this sensor issue has just raised more questions.... any advice would be incredible. THANKS!!

Sorry, can't help you with the Durango problem but....

You bring up a good point. FTE in my opinion, is the the best and friendliest forum around. Everybody here just wants to help eachother out and have a good time.

FTE and the 7.3 Brotherhood is the reason I keep coming back. The information here is great and everyone wants to help out until the problem is fixed.

You can't find that on many other forums.

I am actually familiar with this symptom because I had a scare with my truck recently that was a false alarm. Exhaust gases are likely getting into your coolant. I hope I'm wrong, but there is a kit you can get at NAPA that tests for this very thing. [LINK]

As for the brotherhood... it must be a byproduct of snortin' coal.

Sorry Steve, I have zero experience when it comes to a Durango.

Does it rattle when it cranks/runs? As a recovering dodge owner, I learned the wrong way to avoid their 4 cylinder, V6 and 4.7 v8 engines built since the late 90's (neon, intrepid, ram) the hard way.

The 4.7 has a really intricate timing setup and it has a habit of messing up as well as lower end failures. I have also heard a lot about cracked heads/pistons on them.

Sounds to me like it can be an EGR problem dumping to much exhaust into the intake. If it is easy to get at pull the EGR off and see if the plunger is stuck open, it should be in a normally closed position.

Why is there nothing like FTE???

It's because we are enthusiasts, not posers. There is no way we would let anyone screw with the brotherhood. Each person that contributes here is welcomed, each person that tries to crap here isn't.

I am on other sites (different focus) that are like FTE in attitude. Each builds a great community because of the people that participate. Each community defends itself from the poor attitudes of others by the simple expedient of individual responsibility.

FTE FTW!!!!

Well with a compression test on 5 that wouldnt even make the needle jump, all others within 135-150psi and extreme heat in the intake manifold I assume a valve issue is at work. I will be pulling the head tomorrow
