97 F250 7.5 4R100

If ford build sheet on my truck says - trans 4R100 that's what it is isn't it?
Seems like every time I have to tell someone they say its not

If that's true, that would be the first I've ever heard of. But I will not say that it's impossible that you have that tranny.
I just did a little bit of research, and from what I can tell, the 4r100 was first used in 1999 to replace the E40D as a heavy duty transmission. I didn't find one instance of it being in an OBS ford behind a 460. Perhaps crawl under the truck and take some pictures? I'm sure somebody would instantly be able to tell you what you have that way.

It would definitely be a one-of-a-kind truck if it has a factory 4r100. Those shouldn't be behind any 460s. Post up a picture of the trans.

You do realize that the 4R100 trans is a factory modified E4OD- the housing is different, but most of the internals are interchangable. The pan is identically shaped between the E4OD and the 4R100.

Even the cases are very similar, the fastest way to tell is that the 4R100 has a TSS sensor (circled in red) and the E40D doesn't.

The main point here is the E4OD cannot be substituted for a 4R100 or vice versa. They are different enough to warrant an individual model designation. Whomever looked up the truck build info made an error with the reference to a 4R100 transmission. I have been wrong in the past from time to time, but to the best of my knowledge and documentation the truck should have an E4OD transmission.

As far as I know ford never made a 4r100 in the 460 bolt pattern

I think I believe multiple people the same thing to me more then a piece of paper. I'll post some photo to settle any curiosity.
What's happening is I'm getting harder or sharp shifts especially 2nd to 3rd when accelerating hard - like 3000 to 4000 rpms. Most of the time it seems fine but in those cases it seems to hard. Had fluid exchange done at the ford store a year or so ago (maybe 5000 miles) and don't remember it doing it back then. I have a filter and 9 qrts of mercron v - I'll try that this weekend. Also it did seem to get better when I cleaned my pcv valve and fix the hose connected to it "I think"

Likely what's happened is when the build sheet was made up there was some confusion due to the new f150-based F250 in '97 along side the '97 OBS F250 heavy duty. The OBS F250 HD was the same as the '92+ trucks and would be available with a 7.5L and E4OD. The new '97 F250 would have been available with a 5.4l and the 4r100 which is an updated E4OD. Now MAYBE there's a 4r100 in there but as you've read it would be as-yet unheard of to anyone here.
