Ok, so this is my first Ford and first truck. Anyway about a week ago when i picked up my 1995 F-250 XL with the 5.8 Windsor i decided to drive it home. while i was driving it the engine was screaming in each gear and when i slow let off the throttle it was shift into next gear. 3rd and 4th overdrive were switching back and forth a lot. When i got home i noticed that the transmission pan was leaking which i will be replacing. Any thoughts on what could be the problem.

165,000 miles on the engine and transmission

check engine light was not on.

transmission did not seem to be slipping in any gear at all.

Get the codes read as you have a sensor input problem to the computer or a bad computer.

 

After codes, check your timing I know it's weird of me to request, but my dad's truck would hold 2-3 then 3-4. I Advanced the timing back to 10* and it cleared it up and shifts perfectly now. Maybe someone can expand on this?
