I am currently in the middle of doing up a 1970 F100 and i currently am having trouble trying to find out what sort of diff i have and i was hoping that maybe by posting some pictures on here i may be able to get this sorted so if any of you could help that would be great.
Thank You.

Reason: pictures
Hmm... i like a good mystery. I've been searching all over the web and have been unable to ID that thing. How about posting the data plate info? You can of course decode the data plate here: Decoding Your 1970 Ford Truck VIN - FORDification.com
Second, what exactly are the numbers on the carrier?.. all I can make out is B276_ R... the underscore is the alphanumeric I cannot discern.

I dont have data plate details at all sorry the only details to find out what it is is those numbers in the picture. i have tried searching for the diff myself but some people have said it could be a eaton or a dodge but i haven't found any diff's with the back plate welded on so the only access is from the front.

Thx Mick
Well at least ya tried to ID it on your own. Kudos...... that's more than others will do. I too thought it was a Dodge/Chrysler but not many dual rear wheel axles pictured on the web.
The "front access" is referred to as a drop-out (gear) carrier.... others, with rear access covers, are referred to as integral carriers because the gears have to be set-up within the axle.
It sure as heck looks like a Chrysler 8-3/4 by its banjo housing..... or it's some funky (and old) housing like from a commercial vehicle like a bread truck or small school bus. Dunno...

Mick, You sure fooled me, with your "I am currently in the middle of doing up a 1970 F100" in your original post, then posting photos of what appears to be for a much larger truck.
How many F100's came with dual rear wheels? None / The rear axle has been swapped (OP sez from an F350) and it looks just like a...
The housing has a date on it, what I can make of it: 2 -1? -6? / Are the wheels 6 lug on a 7.25" bolt circle? / How many bolts retain the carrier to the housing, 12?
HIO Silver...away! The Lone Ranger traded Silver for a bread truck (P350), Tonto's riding shotgun. P350's used the same rear axles as F350's, but it depends on certain years which rear axle it is.
Actually Clayton Moore bought a 1969 Econoline "Cut-Away" from Ralph Williams Ford in Encino, then Ralph had a Class C Motorhome body mounted.

The date on the housing if that is what it is it is 2-17-54 as best guess a little unclear it is a 6 stud on a just over 8-8.5 inch bolt circle and the carrier to housing is a 10 bolt and the diff centre casing is just over 13" across. PS John it really is a 1970 F100 just with the dually it looks bigger than it is. Because we are in Australia, Dodge is not a big company here so any info from some friendly American counterparts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Guys
Sorry for the late reply ive just been busy but thank you all for the advice i will take all the information you lot have provided and work it out from there so thank you all
