The simplest way is to jack up the rear and see if one of the tires will turn. If you can turn one tire and the other also turns but in the opposite direction then you have a standard rear axle. But if it will only turn while in neutral and both tires turn back and forth together, then you have a posi rear axle.

Well I front have any jacks that that would be safe to do with so... How about a part number? Or maybe they sound if makes will drive in position one 1? It it makes a nice little sound like it's charging a boost when rolling up my drive in first.

BTW, got a video of my new lighting mods right here

You should check it out, I think you guys would like it

You can get the axle code from the driver's door jamb and look it up. But that is no guarantee the the posi is actually working.

What code would I be looking for? And I've used (I think) matching tires it's whole life. Then again I had the spare tire on the vehicle for a few weeks but I really hoping I didn't use it on the rear.

Ironically, you'd be looking for the "AXLE" code on the door sticker....

I'm mean code wise. Numbers or something like that.

Get the number opposite where it says axle and look it up in a google search with Ford axle codes. Or post it here and we will tell you. I think your choices are 16, 19, H6 and H9. The H's are limited slip.

And let's say that I did have limited slip and was not working. What would normally have gone bad that I would need to fix if I wanted it to work?

There are clutches in it that can go bad.

Somebody said that if you put it in drive facing up and hill with the engine off, it will not roll. If it has a posi differential. Is this true?

Axle code 15. I'm going to check that now

Well, 3.31 non-locking differential.. Darn, guess this a pretty basic vehicle.. But it sure can move for that small ratio. I'll live with it
