Question about CEL and the Edge Insight
So I have been thinking about getting the Edge Insight monitor gauge, it is not a programer just a gauge that has the capability to read and clear CEL trouble codes. In the past I have always done all of my own work this is the first vehicle that I have owned that has a warranty. So my question is and I could ask the dealer but what fun is that. If I start clearing the CEL codes should I get any, will that do anything to the warranty or cause the shop to say "Hey buddy you have been screwing with this thing, you're on your own"?
I suppose the shops are great but the closest one to me is 50 miles away, I would like to do some of the troubleshooting myself. And not waste my time taking into the dealer every time I get a CEL.
By the way there is a sale on the Edge Insight right now.
Insight CTS ( Fits 1996 and Newer OBDII-Enabled Vehicles )<b>- FREE - Next Day Air !

Can't tell you the amount of times a customer came in "I had a CEL, but I cleared it and it hasn't come back. I need it fixed, its still under warranty". You just have to tell them, "When it comes back, bring it in, and don't clear it, I have to verify it for one, and when you clear it, you also clear freeze frame data."

I knew it still needed to be there when I bring it in for repair. But if I clear one and it doesn't come back there would be no reason to bring it in. But as far as you are concerned it doesn't change anything as far as the repair goes if there is a CEL present when I bring it in?
It is not that easy for me to swing by the dealer to have them clear a code that I would be able to clear myself if comes back right away then I guess I need to figure out how to get it to the dealer.

If you have an Android device, all you need is these two items.

It (PCM) keeps track of miles since last cleared; previous experience with a tuner on the 04 was that this mileage was reset when the tune was loaded or put back to stock.
While under warranty, I let dealer reset any CEL, I don't want any impression or thought that there may me a tuner in use.
Just something to think about.

The dealer will see the following if you messed with your flash:
Cumulative number of reprogramming events (re-flashes) - XXXX
Distance traveled since the most recent reprogramming event (re-flash) - XXXXXX
Cumulative number of successful reprogramming events (re-flashes) - XXXX
Since the huge industry in aftermarket programmers the PCM knows all in order to protect the mothership.
It also shows when the CEL was cleared and how many miles and engine running time since. The dealer doesn't care how many times its been reset by the customer. They'll just tell you that when you do it, it makes it just that much more difficult to diagnose the problem.

I don't think anyone has posted the actual IDS checks on here.
We've known about the logging and that it exists in 2011+ but not the details.

My 2006 truck wouldn't start one afternoon, Called my service advisor and gave him the code. He told me to clear it and the truck would start, then to just drive it in to his dealer ship.
He was more than happy for me to save a tow by clearing a code that was preventing the truck from starting. In my case it was a HPOP failure.
I cleared the code, truck started, Drove to dealer and he fixed the truck under warranty.
It's no big deal except as vloney said, He can't verify the code when you bring it in.
