Scored a free Ranger :)

Good afternoon gents (and ladies),

I've been around FTE previously, when I owned an 83 F100 and found it to be an invaluable resource. I ended up trading that F100 to a farmer for a non-running '69 Scout a few years ago, which is now my fair weather daily driver.

So, the reason I'm back is, today I scored a FREE 87 Ranger extended cab off Craigslist. Went and checked it out at lunch, picked up the title and test drove it for a few minutes. They guy still needed to finish cleaning it out, so I'm headed back after work to take it home.

The whole story is here: Scored a free pickup today!

Anyway, I know I'm going to need help getting her back in fighting shape, so back to FTE I have come.

the 2.3 isnt a bad motor, i had a '88 supercab 2wd 2.3 5 speed with the 3.73 rear end, did just fine unless you had a long steep upgrade to deal with, would tow light loads fine, but get above 1,500 pounds and it didnt like it. mine got 28 highway mpg at best, usually 23 around town. might have a vaccum leak or just need a set of plugs/wires...cant beat free!

Well, this one will definitely cost me something. Probably a couple hundred in tuneup/PO deferred maintenance issues and a few pieces from the JY. Interestingly, on the way home, it started idling fine, then, when I went outside to move it, it was back to trying to stall. I'll start tinkering tomorrow.
