The Dreaded Rear Differential Whine

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT and have had the dreaded whine from my rear differential for a few weeks now. Replaced existing 75x-90 gear oil with 75w-140 oil a couple days ago and there was no difference. Have read TSB 05-23-3 regarding the rear axle repair kit. Thinking of just buying a used rear end from the junk yard but want the newest used one available. I have a 8.8 inch 3.55 ratio, non-limited slip differential (5L2Z-4209-AA). What is the latest model Explorer that has this type of differential. Any other suggestions would also be welcome. Thanks.

There is a good chance the used one would whine or worse as well.

Just have it fixed. jmo
