anybody know if i can change the coolant in my 03 v10 from the overpriced ford gold to green coolant or any other type, I work at a freightliner dealer and can get the detroit diesel coolant at cost just over 6 bucks a gallon versus 18 for ford gold and 9 bucks for green at walmart. just want to make sure it wont hurt anything inside motor, sensors, gaskets seals etc... thanks.
Zerex gold is $12 at NAPA...
It is not recommended to mix ELC with traditional green or Ford gold so you would have to flush out the old coolant completely. Otherwise, ELC will work fine in your engine.
On a related note, how do you flush the coolant system on these? I'm interested because I want to change mine, but really have never flushed a coolant system before.

This is basically what I do on my V10 and others. Works well and no screwing with block drain plugs or pulling t-stats. Just make sure to keep the heater on high and hot to flush the heater core. I wrote down a step by step somewhere here but don't remember which thread it was.
I made a little hose flushing tool out of an old degas cap to keep water from flying everywhere. The Stant caps are much better to make it out of because they are one piece. I had to do a bit of machining on the 2 piece Motorcraft cap before and after epoxying it together. I didn't have an old Stant cap when I made it and wasn't ruining a new one.
My local Napa wanted $17 gal and change for Zerex G-05 and my local Ford dealer sold the MC Gold to me for $15 gal and change with a discount for buying 4 gallons at a time. The Gold is a very good coolant and last a while with zero drop out like the green stuff does over time. I have changed gold coolant with over 100,000 miles and almost 10 years on it and it still was in half decent shape with no sign of dropout. I use the MC for all my vehicles. Some things are not worth cheaping out on to me.
