this is from my experience only ...my uncle had a 2003, ram 2500 cummins with 200k and wanted to upgrade to a dually, in 2007 he did....he got a 2007.5 cab and chassis with the 6.7 and a six speed auto he still has the truck, it has 190k miles. He just bought a 2013 2500 cummins big horn edition, truck has about 10k miles...None of those trucks had ever been in the shop for ANYTHING. I have another uncle that owns a fleet of 160 trucks for a big landscape/tree business...he loves his 7.3's he has over 100 of them and very rarely break down and he has some with over 500k miles...the rest are 6.0's and 6.4..he claims they are junk...they have cost him close to 200k in repairs. He sold EVERY one of them and bought isuzu flatbeds to replace them powered by duramax diesel. My two cents but if i ever go diesel, im going cummins.

This is a tough choice. The new 2013 RAM trucks are nice (in my opinion, way nicer). The 3500 in 2013 has upgraded front end components that should eliminate the ball joint problems of the old frame / front end.
The new 2013+ Ram can be equipped with an Aisin HD tranny...which is considered to be a truck Medium duty tranny.
The 2011 + Powerstroke 6AT is very reliable and a solid truck. There's plenty of data out to prove that point and resale values as of late show just how much better the 6.7 is holding up vs the 6.0 and 6.4 values after 3 years of ownership. As well, the populace is starting to consider the Ford diesel to be reliable again (something very few would say with the 6.0 and 6.4).
I don't know what I would buy today. The choice is tough, but I would be spending a lot of time at the Ram dealership trying to poke holes in the new DEF equipped trucks. My feeling is the Ram is the nicer interior.

No question in my mind, the new Powerstroke is the new "known" in the reliability department (the GM truck is reliable too..but the truck is garbage inside).
That being said, when I bought my 2011...the Ford 6.7 was the unknown. I guess I'm a gambler if I perceive quality. I figured Ford had to get the 6.7 right...otherwise another junk diesel would sink the HD line.
I think RAM is in the same position today. They are fighting to save the brand...and the obvious improvements they are making shows that they are listening to their shortfalls.
