91 F250 E4OD flex plate questions

I have a 91 Ford f250 with the E4OD tranny. When the engine locked up we were not able to get the torque converter off the original flex plate. The whol bottom end imploded and lock down. We bought another motor out of a 90 Ford Bronco with and automatic tranny but not sure which one. The flex plate with the replacement engine has 4 bolt holes. I have to get a replacement converter for the E4OD. Will the 4 bolt plate work? I have seen converters listing 6 bolts and listing 4 bolts. I am not sure what I need to get.

It has a 5.8, the same as what came out of the truck except I never got the torque converter and flex plate off of the original engine. I dont know what tranny was in the bronco that the replacmenet engine came out of. It was an automatic but whether it was a c6, AOD, or a E4OD I dont know.

Ford trucks w/5.8L engine never came with AOD transmissions from the factory, that narrows it down to an E4OD or C6. More than likely the former.

That helps. It has the E4OD. It has the 20 bolt pan and the push button OD on the dash. How about the number of bolts on the converter. I have seen converters listed with 6 bolts and with 4 bolts. There are also different converters listed that went behind the diesels and the 4.7 gas engines. The flex plate I have has 4 bolt holes. I just want to make sure that this is the correct plate to run with the E4OD converter.

I had that happen before to me on a car. After pulling the engine I took the oil pan off and undid the rods and mains. Pulled the crank out and got access to the TC bolts that way. That way I saved $$$ not having to get a flex plate and another torque converter.

As far as I know all small block torque converters are 4-bolt so the flexplate you have should be a direct replacement.
