I have a 90 f150 4.9l 2wd auto and it appears to be slowly leaking oil from a mysterious place just behind the oil filter. Is there some sort of access panel there? Is it a normal thing for it to leak? Can I purchase a gasket for this?

 

To answer your questions, yes and yes. Get the Fel Pro blue silcone gasket.

 

The oil switch might be leaking a little as well. Its right in that area.

Mine was leaking a small amount of oil and I replaced it yesterday. Since I had to mess with it anyway I put a T fitting and a 2" nipple in and installed a mechanical guage at the same time.

 

Try tightening the lifter cover bolts first.

 

When it is covered in oil that side panel looks intimidating but it is really easy to replace. Get some degreaser and go to the local carwash before you start and its pretty straight forward.
